Yeison Lopez Obtains Silver in Total at IWF Grand Prix II
Author:
The 89 kg category is one of the most popular to watch by the weightlifting fandom, on the 7th day of competition we had some lots of faces to watch, and with his word record tying Snatch, Yeison Lopez Lopez, also known as Goku from his friends, demonstrated he’s one of those faces.
Starting at 170 kg Snatch, Yeison showed his prowess and expertise in this lift, after this round he became the top lifter between his competitors. When it came to the second attempt, Lopez Lopez added 5 kg to the bar for a total of 175 kg, again, he came out on top of the leaderboard after this second wave of snatches, only followed closely by Venezuela’s Keydomar Vallenilla, who was trailing behind by 4 kg.
On the third round of attempts, following Antonio Pizzolato and Karlos Nasar’s failed 175 kg and Keison Vallenilla’s failed 174 kg, Lopez Lopez blew everyone away by comfortably lifting 180 kg on his third attempt, giving him the gold medal for snatch.

On the Clean and Jerks, Lopez Lopez started with 202 kg for his first attempt, for his second attempt he continued in a conservative fashion by only adding 4 kg to his Clean and Jerk and not falling into the pressure of his opponents who started with higher weights, he stuck to his plan.
For his third attempt he added 4 more kilos to lift a bar with 210 kg, that is his personal best, this left Yeison in third place, trailing back only 1 kg from Kwang Ryol Ro, and a surprising 13 kg difference from Bulgaria’s Karlos Nasar.
His outstanding performance added 390 kg for Yeison’s total, earning him a silver medal, leaving him only a 3 kg difference from 1st place Karlos Nasar’s total, and 10 kg difference from third place Antonio Pizzolato who got a total of 380 kg.
