Kim Suhyeon Sweeps the House Winning All Gold at the 2024 IWF Asian Championships

Day 6 at the 2024 IWF Asian Championships and we had one of the biggest surprises in the competition in the 81 kg female category, with South Korea’s Kim Suhyeon stepped onto the platform and ravaged the competition in both Snatch and Clean and Jerk by winning both lifts and placing first in the Total.

Kim Suhyeon started her snatch session with a first lift of 105 kg, then went up to 108 kg for her second attempt and finished this part of the competition with a 110 kg Snatch that gave her a 3 kg advantage ahead of the second place.

Those three good lifts and a gold medal gave her the confidence to continue crushing it into the Clean and Jerk session.

For the Clean and Jerk session she Started with a whopping 132 kg, 4 kg heavier than the other first attempts of the other competitors, she then went up to 140 kg for her second attempt that resulted in a good lift and for her third attempt she lifted 144 kg giving her the gold medal in clean and jerk too.

For the total she got 254 kg, 11 kg heavier than the silver medalist, she demonstrated such proficiency and excellent technique that made her deserve those three gold medals for the South Korean team. 

In her career Kim Suhyeon has represented her team in the international arena, by earning bronze in the World Championships in Bogota in 2022 in the 76 kg category, also earning a gold medal for her team at the Asian Championships in 2023 in Jinju in the same category and also a silver medal at the Asian Championships in 2020 at Tashkent.
