The women’s 59 kg was the main event on day 3 of the European Championships, and we saw some spectacular performances. However, no athlete was better than Kamila Konotop from Ukraine.
It may not have come as a surprise, considering her previous achievements, but Kamila Konotop showed an impressive performance during the women’s 59 kg category and managed to win three gold medals – one for each lift and one overall for the category.
The Ukranian lifter started strongly, lifting 102 kg for her first Snatch attempt and 105 kg on her second attempt.

Unfortunately, her final one, which would have set a new World Record (108 kg), was unsuccessful. Her incredible showcase continued on the Clean & Jerk lift, where she again showed impressive lifting with 121 kg on her first attempt and 125 kg on her second attempt; she declined the final one due to the fact that she had already won the gold medal.
Her total of 226 kg was 11 kg more than second-placed Dora Tchakounte, and she was clearly the most dominant athlete on day 3.
Initially, Kamila started competing in the 55 kg category, and she represented Ukraine during the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, where she finished in fifth place.
She also won a silver medal in that category at the 2020 World Championships. In 2022, she decided to switch to the 59 kg division, and her success was instant – she finished second at the 2022 European Championships and 6th at the 2022 World Championships.
Last year, she finished in second place at the 2023 World Championships in Riyadh and won the gold medal at the 2023 European Championships, so she managed to defend her title in Sofia.
