Men’s 109 kg Division Recap – IWF European Weightlifting Championships 2024

Day 8 of the European Weightlifting Championships in Bulgaria became remarkable due to bright performance in the Men’s heavyweight 109-kg category. Eleven lifters presented vigorous performances full of eye-catching moments. 

We witnessed numerous mind-blowing weights that today’s titans were going to conquer. The overall session of the 109-kg weight class was a real show of great power and resilience as the competition is gaining momentum.

The winner in today’s weight class was  DADASHBAYLI Dadash from Azerbaijan who lifted 176 kg in Snatch at the third attempt, 212 kg in Clean & Jerk at the second try, and a total of 388 kg.

The second place was occupied by HRISTOV Hristo from Bulgaria who got in total of 380 kg, he lifted 175 kg in Snatch, and 205 kg in Clean & Jerk.

The bronze medalist was HOFMANN Matthaeus from Germany: he lifted 172 kg in Snatch,  206 kg in Clean & Jerk, and got 378 kg in the sum of two exercises.

Top Athletes’ Review

Let’s observe today’s leaders by reminding their key accomplishments of their latest performances.

The Men’s 102-kg weight category winner DADASHBAYLI Dadash, is an Azerbaijani weightlifter, a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships, bronze medalist at the 2021 European Championships, and a Junior European Champion in 2015. At Grand Prix II in Doha, he became a Champion in his weight category.

What about the silver medalist, HRISTOV Hristo, he’s a Bulgarian weightlifter, a gold and two-time silver medalist at the European Championships. He’s a silver medalist at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, and a gold medalist at the World Youth Championships.

The bronze medalist, HOFMANN Matthaeus, a German weightlifter who participated at the European Championships in Yerevan finished fifth.

Snatch results:

Having reviewed the Snatch session, we can say that the performance was quite good as just several lifters had one unsuccessful attempt while the rest lifts were clear.

🥉HOFMANN Matthaeus (GER) –  172 kg

The Clean & Jerk exercise showed that more attempts were with no-lifts compared to the Snatch round.

🥈DEMIRCI Onur (TUR) – 207 kg
🥉HOFMANN Matthaeus (GER) – 206 kg
