Ukrainian Weightlifter and European Record Holder

Kamila Konotop was born on March 23rd, 2001, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and she’s known for her impressive achievements in weightlifting. 

She won the silver medal in the women’s 59 kg category at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh and she’s also won multiple gold medals at the European Weightlifting Championships. Another thing she’s known for is setting several European records. Her career started early and has been making waves ever since. 

Konotop’s rise in weightlifting started in 2016, when she won a bronze medal in the women’s 53 kg category at the European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships in Eilat, Israel. Next year, she repeated this success at the Youth World Weightlifting Championships in Bangkok. In 2018, she got a silver medal in the junior 53 kg event at the European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships in Zamość. That same year, she competed in the women’s 55 kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships in Ashgabat, but she didn’t win a medal. 

Her breakthrough came in 2019 – she won gold in the junior 55 kg event at the European Junior && U23 Weightlifting Championships in Bucharest, Romania, and added a silver at the 6th International Qatar Cup in Doha. The following year, she won a gold medal at the 2021 European Weightlifting Championships in Moscow and another at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, where she set a junior world record with a 212 total. 

She competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and finished 5th in the women’s 55 kg event. She also won a gold medal at the 2021 European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships in Rovaniemi. In 2022, she took home a silver medal from the European Weightlifting Championships in Tirana and gold from the European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships in Durrës. She also got a bronze medal in the women’s 59 kg Snatch event at the World Weightlifting Championships in Bogotá. 

She continued being successful in 2023, when she won a gold medal in the women’s 59 kg event at the European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan. There, she set new European records in the Snatch, Clean and Jerk, and Total with lifts of 106 kg, 129 kg, and 235 kg. Her stellar year continued with a silver medal at the World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh. 

As of 2024, she’s added another gold to her collection at the European Weightlifting Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, and set her status as one of weightlifting’s brightest stars.
