Chinese World Champion Weightlifter

Luo Shifang, born on April 2nd, 2001, is a Chinese weightlifter who’s very successful in the women’s 59 kg category. She has significant milestones under her belt, like winning the gold medal at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and a silver medal she won at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Luo’s consistent performance and record-setting lifts have earned her the place of one of the top athletes in her weight class. 

Luo’s career began to gain traction in 2017 when she competed in the Asian Youth Championships, winning gold in the 58 kg category with an impressive total of 195 kg. This early success was a precursor to her future achievements on the international stage.

2022 was successful for her, as well. She competed in the 59 kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships in Bogota, Colombia, and finished in fourth place with a total lift of 230 kg. 

2023 was an even better year. She won a gold medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jinju, South Korea, with a total lift of 238 kg. This victory was followed by her incredible performance at the World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, where she won gold with a snatch of 107 kg and a clean and jerk of 136 kg, totaling 243 kg. Her triumph in Riyadh cemented her status as a world champion.

Her winning streak continued in 2024, when she competed at the IWF World Cup in Paris, where she ranked first in the women’s 59 kg category. She lifted 108 kg in the snatch and 140 kg in the clean and jerk, which was a total of 248 kg. 

Luo’s story is one of talent and dedication. Her performances have not only brought her individual success, but they have also contributed to the reputation of Chinese weightlifting on the global stage. Her legacy in the sport is still being written, but her impact is already big.
