2024 IWF European Championships: Ivan Dimov won Overall Silver in Men’s 61 kg Category

For host nation Bulgaria, the second day of the European Championships was a memorable one, seeing as they managed to snag the two top spots on the podium for the men’s 61 kg category.

It all started with Ivan Dimov’s success.

He began the competition very well by lifting 130 kg for the Snatch on his first attempt, which was enough to give him the gold medal for the movement.

Then, on the Clean & Jerk, his good performance continued as he lifted 150 kg on his third attempt for the bronze medal for the movement. His combined total of 280 kg, along with one gold and one bronze medal for the lift, was just what he needed to grab the silver medal in the overall category.

Ivan Dimov was the European Champion in 2022, and he finished in 3rd place at last year’s European Championships in Yerevan. Along with that, he showed a great performance during the 2023 World Championships, where he finished 6th in the overall ranking.
