For Antonino Pizzolato of Italy, the competition day began with a successful 170 kg on his first Snatch attempt, but unfortunately, his next two attempts of 175 kg resulted in no lifts, so he placed third overall for the movement.

On the Clean & Jerk, the Italian lifter again started well, lifting his first attempt of 210 kg successfully.

Pizzolato’s total of 380 kg was just 2 kg more than third-placed Marin Robu and was enough for him to win the overall silver medal for the men’s 89 kg category.

At the start of his career, Pizzolato competed in the lighter weight class and represented Italy in the 81 kg men’s category at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where he won a bronze medal for this country.

Along with that, in that same category, he was crowned European champion twice – in 2019 and 2021. After switching to the 89 kg category, Pizzolato won the European Championships in 2022, where he also set the then-world record for the Clean & Jerk and for total kg lifted.
