Record-Holding American Weightlifting Champion
Hampton Miller Morris was born on February 17th, 2004, and he’s an American weightlifter known for his achievements in the men’s 61 kg category. He’s a three-time gold medalist at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships (2021, 2022, and 2023) and holds both the junior and senior clean and jerk world records in the men’s 61 kg class. He’s renowned for his exceptional performance and lifts that break records and has become a prominent figure in the weightlifting community.
Morris won a gold medal in the men0s 61 kg event at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and that’s when his career really took off. He then won a silver medal at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games in Colombia where he was also one of the flag bearers for the United States during the opening ceremony. Such an early success set a solid foundation for his future.
In 2022, Morris reached some really significant milestones. He got a gold medal at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Heraklion, Greece, where he set a junior world record with a 160 kg lift in the clean and jerk. He continued the winning streak at the 2022 Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Bogota, Colombia, by setting yet another junior world record of 162 kg in the clean and jerk. Later that same year, he improved his record to 163 kg at the Pan American Junior Weightlifting Championships in Lima, Peru.
His impressive performance didn’t stop there, it continued at the 2023 Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Bariloche, Argentina, where he won the gold medal in both the snatch and clean and jerk events in the men’s 61 kg category. But the true highlight of his career came on September 6th, 2023, when he won the gold medal in the clean and jerk at the World Weightlifting Championships and became the first American to do this since 1972. Morris holds both the junior and senior world records in the clean and jerk for the 61 kg category, which just proves how exceptional his technique is and how much strength he has.
He’s rising really quickly in the weightlifting community and he’s constantly achieving new milestones. At the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships, he not only won gold, but also set a new junior world record of 160 kg in the clean and jerk.
