IWF Grand Prix II, Day 3 Recap – Women’s 55 kg Results

The third day of the Grand Prix II in Qatar was flashy and dramatic in both the Women’s 55 kg and Olympic Men’s 61 kg categories. We held our breath while watching an eye-hooking performance in the Women’s 55-kg weight class as twelve athletes were pushing hard to surpass their contenders in each round by increasing weights.

The same thrilling feelings were while spectating the battle at the 61-kg Olympic weight category that was almost equal for all the opponents. Highlights of the Category Women’s 55 kg: Ri Su Yon Dominates the Podium with 17 Kilos Gap

This competition day was memorable as the Women’s 55-kg weight category showed the following numbers: the leader became Ri Su Yon who got a gold medal in Snatch of 94 kg, Clean&Jerk of 116 kg, and 210 kg total. She managed to lift 17 kilos more than second place. By the way, at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, she took silver with the results 96-126-222.

The second place moved to a lifter from Thailand, Khambao Surodchana who performed his total of 193 kg, 84 kg in Snatch, and 109 kg in Clean&Jerk. Looking back at her accomplishments, she won bronze at the Asian Champs in 2023, and took gold at the Worlds 2021 at the 49-kg division.

Bronze was secured by Aleksandra Grigoryan from Armenia who lifted 81 kg in the Snatch round, 108 kg in Clean & Jerk, and in a total gained 189 kg, managing to improve her prior result just by 1 kilo. At the World Junior Champs in November, she won gold due to her C & J of 107 kg and total of 188 kg. At the Worlds in Riyadh, she ranked 7th and at the Europeans in Yerevan, she was 6th.


Lin Cheng Jing from Taipei fell behind the bronze holder by 3 kilos, resulting in fourth. While Rose Harvey from Canada finished fifth with 183 kg total that was four kilos less than her performance at the 2023 Quebec Championships.
