News Europe 2024 Olympic Weightlifting

Tham Nguyen won Bronze in the 49 kg Women’s Weight class During the 2024 IWF European Championships

This year’s edition of the European Championships is underway in Sofia, Bulgaria, and we first got to witness the women’s lightweight categories.

In the 49 kg division, we saw quite an intense competition, with some new and surprising names entering the podium spots.

However, Tham Nguyen from Ireland was not one of them, even though she managed to win the bronze medal in the women’s 49 kg category. Nguyen didn’t start off the competition in the best possible way, seeing that she finished 6th overall for the snatch with 74 kg.

Thankfully, she didn’t let this opening affect the rest of her performance, and in the Clean & Jerk, she managed to lift 95 kg, which was enough for the bronze medal for the lift and the bronze medal in the overall rankings.

Tham Nguyen started her career in the 53 kg division, but she quickly changed to the 49 kg one, where she got most of her success. Before this competition, her best result came last year in Armenia, when she also managed to win the bronze medal in the 49 kg event.
