News Europe 2024 Olympic Weightlifting

Shota Mishvelidze won the Bronze Medal for the Men’s 61 kg Category at the 2024 IWF European Championships

In the battle for the podium spots for the Men’s 61 kg category, only three could stand at the top, and one of them was Shota Mishvelidze from Georgia. The second day of the European Championships was a good one for team Georgia as they walked away with two bronze medals.

For Shota, the competition started very well as he lifted 125 kg on the Snatch, which was enough for him to get the bronze medal for the movement.

After that, however, his Clean & Jerk attempts weren’t as good, and he managed to lift only 147 kg, even tho he attempted 156 kg. His overall of 272 kg was enough to give him the final podium spot and a bronze medal in the rankings.

During last year’s European Championships in Yerevan, Mishvelidze was the gold medalist; however, he couldn’t defend his title. And during the 2023 World Championships in Riyadh, he finished fourth – all very good results. Unfortunately, this Olympic year isn’t starting as well for him, and he will try to improve his performance prior to Paris and the Olympic Games.
