News Europe 2024 Olympic Weightlifting

Onur Demirci achieved Silver in Clean & Jerk in the Men’s 109 kg Category at the 2024 European Weightlifting Championships

On day 8 of the European Championships in Bulgaria, it was time for the real heavyweight lifters to come out, and thankfully, we had a fantastic competition between the men in the 109 kg category.

For Onur Demirci of Turkey, the competition day started off well as he managed to lift 168 kg on the Snatch, which left him in sixth place but still meant he had a way to fight for a spot on the podium.

On the Clean & Jerk, the Turkish lifter did even better, starting shakily by missing his first attempt but ultimately regaining his composure and lifting 207 kg for the silver medal for the movement.

Unfortunately, his total of 375 kg left him in fourth place, needing just 4 kg more to be able to get to the bronze medal in the overall ranking for the category.
