News Europe 2024 Olympic Weightlifting

Mirko Zanni achieved Bronze in Snatch in the Men’s 73 kg Category at the 2024 European Weightlifting Championships

Day 4 of the European Championships didn’t disappoint as we again were able to witness a ton of impressive lifts and exciting moments, as many of the athletes performed close to their very best.

For Mirko Zanni of Italy, the competition started more than well, as he managed to lift 150 kg on his first attempt at the Snatch and then improve on that result with 153 kg on his final attempt.

With that performance, the Italian managed to win the Bronze medal for the Snatch and was looking in a good position to end up on a podium spot. Unfortunately, Zanni’s performance on the Clean & Jerk was nothing short of disappointing as he didn’t manage to lift his desired kilograms on any of his attempts and ended up not being able to rank on the overall table for the category.

Prior to switching to the 73 kg division, Zanni achieved his biggest success in the 67 kg category, where he won an Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo and a silver medal at the 2021 European Championships. After switching up to the higher weight class, he managed to win a bronze from last year’s edition of the Europeans – an achievement that he unfortunately couldn’t defend.
