News Europe 2024 Olympic Weightlifting

Elena Loredana Toma won Gold in the Women’s 71 kg Category (2024 IWF European Championships)

For some athletes, day 5 of the European Championships in Sofia will be a memorable one, thanks to all that they managed to achieve.

And that applies fully to Elena Loredana Toma from Romania, who once again showed everyone that she’s in fantastic form and one of the best lifters in the category.

The Romanian athlete started off great, completing all three of her Snatch attempts and finishing with 114 kg on the last one, which was enough for the gold medal for the movement. On the Clean & Jerk, she wasn’t as successful, but she still managed to find a way to battle through and get 127 kg for a fourth-place finish.

Her total of 241 kg was 6 kg more than silver medalist Siuzanna Valodzka and was enough to give her the gold medal for the category.

This is Elena Loredana Toma’s 6th consecutive European title, having won the gold medal in three separate weight classes – 64 kg (in 2017 and 2018), 64 kg (in 2019 and 2021), and in the 71 kg category in 2023 and 2024. Along with that, she’s a two-time World Champion and one of the most successful Romanian lifters of all time.
