2024 IWF European Championships: Alici Duygu won Silver for the Snatch in the Women’s 49 kg Category

We’ve barely gotten a break from the Asian Championships, and the Europeans are already underway in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The first competition day gave us a look at the first lightweight categories, and the women’s 49 kg was the top event in the program, with many unexpected lifters showing good results.

One of them was Turkish lifter Alici Duygu, who won the silver medal for the snatch event with a fantastic performance for the lift. She opened with a steady lift of 75 kg for her first attempt and then had a bit of a failure on the second attempt for 78 kg.

Thankfully, Duygu managed to compose herself, and for her third lift, she got 78 kg, which was enough to give her the silver medal for the snatch, as she finished behind only Mihaela Valentina Cambei from Romania. Unfortunately for Alici Duygu, her performance in the Clean & Jerk was not good enough, and she didn’t even manage to get inside the top 5 for the overall ranking.
