Day 5 of the Asian Championships continued to bring us exciting and maybe unexpected results, and that specifically applies to the women’s kg category.

For team Japan, these Asian Championships have been relatively successful as a lot of their lifters managed to improve on past results.

That also happened in the women’s 71 kg category when Runa Segawa not only got a silver medal for her Clean&Jerk lift but also improved Japan’s national record (previously held by her) by 1 kg.
During the competition, Segawa started shakily, only managing to place 7th after the snatch and lifting 100 kg in total. However, her best performance came at the right time – after not being able to lift 124 kg on the first attempt, she rehabilitated and succeeded in lifting the same amount on the second try. Her third and final attempt was 6 kg – 130 kg, and she managed to lift it and win the silver medal for the Clean&Jerk,
Runa Segawa has been representing Team Japan quite well over the last few years, setting two national records for the 71 kg category – one for the Clean & Jerk and another for the total amount lifted.
