IWF 2024 Asian Championships: Ricko Saputra Won Silver in the 61 kg Division

During the second day of the Asian Weightlifting Championships, we were able to enjoy a spectacular battle with personal bests in the men’s 61 kg division. Due to the absence of team China, these Championships have been producing some memorable and maybe unexpected results, with one of them being delivered by Indonesian lifter Ricko Saptura.

On the second competition day, the Indonesian manager delivered a fantastic performance that gave him the silver medal in the category with a total of 291 kg. He managed to snatch 130 kg, which awarded him the third spot for that lift, and 161 kg on the Clean & Jerk, which was enough for a third-place finish for the lift.

His combined result ended up being only one kilogram better than that of third-placed Trinh Van Vinh, but in the end, in weightlifting, even half a kilogram can make the difference.

Prior to this event, Saptura had one gold medal in the 61 kg category at last year’s IWF Grand Prix in Havana, along with one bronze medal finish at the 2022 Asian Championships in Manama, so it’s safe to say that his performance yesterday was among his very best.
