Nina Sterckx achieved Silver in Snatch in the Women’s 59 kg Category at the 2024 European Weightlifting Championships

Day 3 of the European Championships was just what we expected, as the women’s lightweight categories came back and put on a fantastic show.

After a tough battle, we got some surprising names on the top podium spots, while athletes who we expected to perform better ended up missing out.

Unfortunately for Nina Sterckx, this competition day wasn’t the best one for her. She started off well, lifting 98 kg for her first Snatch attempt, then 101 kg on her second attempt, and she failed on the last one for 103 kg.

However, her second lift was still enough to give her the silver medal for the movement. But things were far from ideal during the Clean & Jerk, where she failed all of her attempts and so didn’t even manage to place on the overall rankings.

Nina Sterckx is one of the best-known names in women’s weightlifting. Until 2023, she competed in the 55 kg category, where she won 2 bronze European Championship medals. When she switched to 59 kg, she got 9th place at the World Championships in Riyadh and a silver medal from last year’s European Championships in Yerevan.
