Muratbek Uulu Ishimbek Got the Bronze in the Clean&Jerk Event at the IWF Grand Prix in Doha

On Day 4 of the IWF Grand Prix in Doha, the men’s 67 kg division promised us a lot of surprising results and shocking lifts, and we can safely say it delivered. Multiple lifters managed to get two accolades, and some new names showed up as the best in the individual events. One of those athletes was Muratbek Uulu Ishimbek from Kyrgyzstan, who got the bronze medal at the Clean&Jerk event for the 67 kg men’s division.
Even though he managed to place only seventh in the overall competition, Muratbek got the bronze in the Clean&Jerk event with his 164 kg attempt, which bested both the silver and the bronze medalists in the division. He couldn’t manage to place higher due to the fact that his snatch lift was only 120 kg, which is slightly below average for this weight class.
In previous years, Muratbek has switched back and forth from performing in the 67 kg division to the 61 kg division and back. In 2022, he recorded Kyrgyzstan’s records for the 61 kg weight class during the Asian Games in Bahrain, as he managed to lift 110 kg in the snatch and 150 kg in the clean&jerk for a total of 258 kg. However, in 2021, he managed to set the records for his country in the 67 kg category as well – lifting 158 kg in the clean & jerk category and 279 kg overall during the Asian Games in Uzbekistan.
