Marin Robu won Bronze in the Men’s 89 kg Category (2024 European Weightlifting Championships)

The most anticipated competition day of the European Championships in Sofia was day 6, when the powerhouse category (89 kg men’s) was set to compete and try to find out who the king of Europe would be.

After a ferocious battle for the top spots, Marin Robu from Moldova managed to get ahead of the competition and grab the overall bronze medal.

He started the competition well, starting with a successful lift of 165 kg, then failing on his second try, and ultimately lifting 171 kg on his final attempt, which was enough for the silver medal for the movement.

After that, on the Clean & Jerk, the Moldovian didn’t show as good of a performance, lifting 207 kg on his final attempt for 4th in the overall ranking for the movement.

Thankfully, his total of 378 kg was enough for him to win the overall bronze medal.

Earlier in his career, Nobu competed in the 73 kg category, where he won a silver medal at the 2021 European Championships and represented Moldova at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Upon switching categories, he finished third in the 81 kg category at the 2021 World Championships, and last year, during the World Championships in Riyadh, he won silver for the Snatch and ended sixth overall.
