John Ceniza, the Filipino national record holder, competed on the third day of the IWF Grand Prix. At the end of the day, he must’ve been left with mixed feelings.
He completed snatch with a new personal best of 133 kg. It ended in disappointment for the Filipino lifter, however, as he failed to finish among the top 3, because he totaled just only 1 kg behind third place.
John Ceniza dusted off his disappointment and tried to earn himself a medal again, this time in the clean and jerk. Yet again, he fell short, finishing in fifth place with 165 kg.
But the tables turned for Ceniza when the scores were totaled. He finished second on the total with a 298 kg. Disappointment in the snatch and C&J was replaced by elation Paris 2024 beckons the Filipino.
. He has previously won silver twice at the Southeast Asia Games in 2019 and 2023, and bronze at the 2020 IWF World Cup in Roma. So he knows how it feels to be a medalist, and he’ll be hungry for more.
