2024 IWF Asian Championships: Bak Joohyo won a Bronze Medal For His Clean & Jerk attempt during the 73 kg men’s event

We got another exciting day at the 2024 Asian Championships in Tashkent, with more surprising results coming our way. The men’s 73 kg event was one of the most engaging ones we’ve seen since the start of the competition, and it managed to give us an unexpected performance yet again.
South Korea’s Bak Joo-hyo is one of the most interesting athletes you will ever come across, considering he’s also a part-time singer. During his Junior career, he managed to win one bronze medal at the World Championships, but his career as a senior lifter has lacked serious success.
Last year, he finished in 9th place during the 2023 World Championships in Saudi Arabia, and the year before that, he didn’t even manage to rank. The fact that he has failed to produce better results is largely due to his unstable performance on the snatch lift, and yesterday, he proved that again.

During the 73 kg men’s event, Bak Joo-hyo started by lifting only 141 kg on the snatch exercise, which left him in 9th place in the overall table, even tho the successful attempts were below average.
However, he managed to compensate for his lackluster snatch performance by finishing in third place for the Clean & Jerk lift with 186 kg. Still, due to the fact that his first lift left him way outside the top 5, his great clean-and-jerk attempt only got him the number 5 spot in the total rankings.
