On the 6th day of the Grand Prix II, Ayodele Ruth Imoleayo proved her athletic prowess yet again by making it into the Top 3 for the 64 kg Women’s division. However, she missed the silver lining this time around and dropped to third place, securing three bronze medals for Nigeria.

Compared to her performance in Riyadh where she bagged the silver medal with a total of 222 kg, this performance lagged behind by 4 kg and she struggled to meet up with her Korean opponent, Rim Un Sim, against a wide margin of 36 kg. Indeed, the Korean team proved their superiority in this division by securing the first and second positions, with the gold medalist being the 20 year old new world record holder, Ri Suk.

The total weight lifted was 218 kg and this earned Ruth three bronze medals in Snatch, Clean & Jerk and Total, respectively. With this, she was 42 kg away from the gold medalist Ri Suk, who also set two Junior World records with 114 kg in the Snatch exercise and 146 kg in Clean & Jerk.

Despite the decline in performance, Ruth still has every reason to smile, after successfully fulfilling her promise to qualify Nigeria for the 2024 Olympic games.

The 23 year old was born in July 21, 2000 and ever since she came into limelight, she has secured a Silver medal in Riyadh Championship, now walking home with three Bronze medals for her performance in Doha.
