Amur Salim Al Khanjari won Bronze in Clean and Jerk at the 2024 IWF Asian Championships

The Men’s 89 kg category is always one of the most interesting ones to watch, and it didn’t disappoint again this year at the 2024 Asian Championships as we saw some unexpected results and a bit of drama during the start of the heavyweight events.

One of the surprises came from Omani lifter Amur Salim Al Khanjari, who managed to win the bronze medal for the Clean&Jerk event after lifting 192 kg on his first attempt, then 196 kg on his second one and ultimately failing on his final attempt for 199 kg.

Still, his second successful attempt was enough to get him on the podium for this lift, but not enough to get him on the podium for the whole category as he was left at the fourth spot with a total of 349 kg, just 3 kg less than third-place winner Emil Moldodosov.

Prior to this event, Amur Salim Al-Khanjari has represented Oman for years at the weightlifting stage with his biggest achievement being his ability to participate at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.
