Clean and Jerk

The clean and jerk was where it all went wrong for Palacios Dajomes back in Tokyo 2020, however this time, she had a clear vision of what she wanted to accomplish and stunning performance to implement it. On her first try, Angie lifted a solid 135 kg, keeping up with the competition. On her second try, she upped the ante to 138 kg, and was successful.

At this point, she has all but secured 3rd place with a 140 kg C&J, leading to a bronze Olympic medal!

Even at 23 year years old, Palacios Dajomes has shown experience and wisdom, as well as iron determination. What would break some mentally, only strengthened the Ecuadorian lifter’s resolve. An inspiration for future prospects in the sport.

Her previous accomplishments include a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships, as well as multiple top placements at other major events.

Her competitors, Olivia Reever (USA) and Mari Leivis Sanchez (Colombia), finished with gold and silver with totals of 262 kg and 257 kg, respectively. The narrow one-point gap between second and third place showed how tight the competition can be, and how physical skill and mental prowess can both play a major role in professional weightlifting.

Palacios Dajomes is surely proud of her accomplishment, since at such a young age she already experienced not one, but two Olympic games, and we can eagerly expect her at the next ones!
