Olivia Reeves (USA) Wins Gold in Women’s 71 kg Category at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Olivia Reeves from the United States secured her gold medal this year at the Olympics in Paris. Her being a first-time Olympian also bolsters this achievement to more significant heights.
Since Reeves debuted at the 2021 World Championships in Tashkent, she managed to acquire five world championship medals, won three gold medals at the 2024 World Cup in Phuket, and gold at the 2023 Pan American Games.
It came as no surprise that she managed to win gold since she already had shown so much promise – still, a colossal effort by the American!

Snatch
Olivia set the pace with an assertive start when she managed to lift 112 kg on the first attempt. She upped the ante by lifting 115 kg on her second attempt. But she didn’t stop there; Reeves went for 117 kg on her third snatch attempt – and success. 3/3 successful lifts for her in Snatch.
She has set a new Olympic Record with that one, putting the cherry on top!
Clean and Jerk
The Clean and Jerk did not disappoint as Reeves opened up with a 140 kg lift on her first try. She went forward with 145 kg on her second attempt and managed it with confidence, practically securing her gold at this point and instilling a massive lead ahead of her competition.
Reeves tried to lift 150kg on her last attempt but failed. Regardless, an amazing performance by Olivia Reeves.
Being just 21 years old and participating in her first Olympics, Reeves managed to showcase superb form and exceptional skill across the board. We can only wait in anticipation of how her career will further develop, as we are sure to see more great things by the American!
The silver medal went to Mari Leivis Sanchez (Colombia), while the bronze went to Angie Paola Palacios Dajomes (Ecuador). Both athletes displayed remarkable strength and technique, lifting totals of 257 kg and 256 kg, respectively.
While the 2nd and 3rd place ended up in a close battle and a 1-kilo difference, the gold medalist flew ahead by a comfortable 5 kilograms, regardless of the last failed C&J attempt. What a dominant victory!
