Clean and Jerk

The Colombian lifter started her Clean and Jerk off with a solid 135 kg in a successful and confident fashion. However, she knew that she needed to go more. And she did!

Her second attempt was a high 140 kgs. Sanchez didn’t stop there, however. On her last attempt, Sanchez went for a risky 145 kg.

After a few moments, the risk paid off! Sanches succeeded in her 145 C&J lift and managed to grab the Olympic silver medal by a mere 1-point difference compared to the 3rd-placed Palacios. A tremendous effort by Mari Leivis Sanchez!

Sanchez’s journey to the Olympic podium, at the age of 32, is a testament to her dedication and perseverance in the sport. A true inspiration and proof that discipline and motivation, alongside hard work, can bring some astonishing historic rewards.

The gold medal went to Olivia Reeves from the United States, while the bronze medalist Angie Paola Palacios Dajomes from Ecuador provided stiff competition with only one point behind the silver Sanchez. This weight category showed the public some intense competition as well as the high level of skill required to compete at this level.
