Women’s 49kg category: A Battle to the Last Lift
The Women’s 49kg category on Day 2 of the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships in Manama delivered a gripping contest, culminating in a dramatic win for Ri Song Gum.
Her extraordinary clean & jerk performance secured the gold medal in total, just edging out Xiang Linxiang from China by a single kilogram.

In the snatch session, Xiang Linxiang showed precision and strength, lifting 92 kg to take the gold. However, she faced stiff competition from Ri Song Gum, who trailed by just 1 kg with her successful 91 kg attempt.

Ri Song Gum took control in the clean & jerk, lifting an impressive 122 kg to clinch gold in this exercise and in total. Xiang Linxiang followed closely with 120 kg, setting a Junior World Record. Lin Cheng-Jing (TPE) secured bronze with her 107 kg.

The snatch session saw an intense battle between Pak Myong Jin, Nguyen Tran from Vietnam. Pak’s successful 132 kg attempt secured the gold, narrowly beating Nguyen Tran’s 131 kg.
