Women’s 81 kg Division Recap – IWF European Weightlifting Championships 2024

Day 7 of the European Weightlifting Championships displayed an impressive lifting session in the Women’s 81-kg weight category, where 11 female athletes were performing in the Group A.

The battle in the division was attention-hooking as the warriors of the Top 3 were competing equally trying to surpass others with extreme weights.

The winner in today’s weight class was ZIELINSKA STUBINSKA Weronika from Poland who lifted 103 kg in Snatch at the second attempt, 132 kg in Clean & Jerk at the third try, and a total of 235 kg.

The second place was occupied by ERIGHINA Elena from Moldova who got in a total of 234 kg, she lifted 103 kg in Snatch, and 131 kg in Clean & Jerk.

The bronze medalist was NARIN Dilara from Turkey: she lifted 97 kg in Snatch, 125 kg in Clean & Jerk, and got 222 kg in the sum of two exercises.

Top Athletes’ Review

The Women’s 81-kg weight category winner ZIELINSKA STUBINSKA Weronika, is a Polish weightlifter who ranked 4th at the 2022 European Championships in Tirana, was 7th at the 2023 European Championships in Yerevan, and finished 6th at the 2023 Worlds in Riyadh. Today she surpassed her previous accomplishments by managing to reign the category.

Speaking about the silver medalist, ERIGHINA Elena, she’s a Moldovan weightlifter who won the silver medal at the 2021 European Championships in the 87-kg weight category. In 2019, she won gold in the under-23 87-kg category at the European Junior & U23 Championships. Additionally, in 2020, she won silver at the Roma 2020 World Cup.

The bronze holder NARIN Dilaar, is a Turkish weightlifter who is a silver and bronze medalist at the European Championships in 2022 and 2023. She’s also a two-time gold and silver medalist at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games, while getting gold medals at the European Junior Championships in 2018 and 2019.

Two American lifters had to perform today as they were included in the entry list, however, Martha Rogers withdrew from the competition. While her teammate Katherine Vibert didn’t show impressive lifts in both exercises: she had three no-lifts of 110 kg in the Snatch session, and the same red lights in Clean&Jerk trying to lift 140 kg.

Snatch results:

The Snatch session was full of no lifts, as almost half of the athletes didn’t manage to cope with the ordered weights. While a lifter from Great Britain refused to lift in this session. The Snatch leaders showed the following results:

🥈ERIGHINA Elena (MDA) –  103 kg
🥉LAGROU Ilke (BEL) –  103 kg

During the Clean & Jerk exercise, there was the same case: almost every lifter had red lights, with one lifter from Britain withdrew from the competition.
