IWF Asian Weightlifting Championships 2024 Day 5 Recap โ€“ Male 81 kg

Day 5 of the Asian continental tournament displayed athletesโ€™ inner balance, resilience, and willingness to outshine the contenders with greater weights.

The gold medalist in the Men’s 81-kg weight category became Ri Chong Song who took three gold medals in Snatch at 169 kg, Clean & Jerk at 200 kg, and 369 kg in total.

The second place was occupied by the weightlifter from Kazakhstan Uvarov Alexandr who performed 343 kg in total, 153 kg in Snatch, and 190 kg in Clean & Jerk. 

Torayev Gaygysyz from Turkmenistan became third with the following results: 148 kg in Snatch, 189 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a total of 337 kg.

All in all, the performance in the weight class was solid with a below-average rate of no-lifts. We can state that the winner finished with a great weight gap ahead of his rival: 16 kilos in Snatch, 10 kilos in Clean & Jerk, and 26 kilograms in the sum of two exercises.

Top Athletesโ€™ Review

The 81-kg weight category gold medalist Ri Chong Song lifted 169 kg in Snatch, and 200 kg in Clean & Jerk, resulting in 369 kg in total. 

Previously, he clinched gold with two new Asian Games records in Hangzhou: 169 kg in Snatch and 364 kg in total. His Clean & Jerk lift was 195 kg. At the Grand Prix II in Qatar, he managed to equal the C&J World Record by lifting 209 kg.

What about the silver medalist Uvarov Alexandr from Kazakhstan, he did 343 kg overall, 153 kg in Snatch, and 190 kg in Clean & Jerk. He competed at the Asian Games in Hangzhou by claiming bronze with a total lift of 348 kg. Unfortunately, today he showed 5 kilos less compared to the prior performance.

Uvarov Alexandr

Bronze moved to Torayev Gaygysyz from Turkmenistan. He did 148 kg in Snatch on the second attempt, 189 kg in Clean & Jerk on the second try as well, and 337 kg in total. Just six kilos left to reach second place, but his opponent from Kazakhstan was a bit stronger.

Having analyzed the Snatch performance, we can state that the majority of lifters had successful attempts with no red lights. Only two athletes had two failed attempts.

Clean & Jerk results:

The situation in the Clean & Jerk session was the same: three lifters had two attempts of no-lifts, while three athletes showed all three successful attempts.
