Samir is an experienced Olympian after winning gold in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, as well as bronze, two years later, at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Snatch
In the snatch section Samir started off with a 113 kg successful lift, followed by a 117 kg snatch, which she also handled without issues. However, on her third and last attempt, she failed to handle the 119 kg load.
This proved to be a headache in the later stages since the finish for 2nd and 3rd place was off by only 1 kilo in the end. Sara Samir managed 2 out of her 3 snatch attempts.
Clean and Jerk
In the C&J, Samir started off with a solid 146 kg. On her second attempt, she managed to lift 151 kg. On her last attempt, she overestimated herself with a hefty 155 kg, which proved to be too much for her to handle. As with the snatch, Samir was successful in 2 out of the 3 Clean and Jerk lifts.
The 26-year-old Egyptian, Sara Samir, has already left very significant marks on the international stage, including serving as a flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
This by itself speaks volumes of her status and respect, as well as what is to be expected of her. Samir did not only affirm her status as an elite weightlifter, but is also a massive inspiration for new generations yet to come to the scene!
The gold was won by Koanda Solfrid from Norway who finished with a dominant victory (275 kg total) and a 7 kg difference compared to Samir. The bronze medal went to the Ecuadorian Neisi Patricia Dajomes Barrera, after she ended close to second place with 267 kg, compared to Samir’s 268.
