Solfrid Koanda Sets New Olympic Records and Wins Gold in C&J and Total at Paris Olympics 2024

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Norway’s Solfrid Koanda not only made history by setting new Olympic records in both the Clean and Jerk and the Total in the women’s up to 81 kg weight category but also secured the Olympic gold medal in her division.

Koanda, already a rising star in the world of weightlifting, lifted 148 kg in her first Clean and Jerk attempt, breaking the Olympic record.

However, the competition was fierce, as Egypt’s Ahmed Sara immediately surpassed this with a stunning 151 kg lift in her second attempt.

The pressure was on, but Koanda remained undeterred. In her second attempt, she hoisted an incredible 154 kg, reclaiming the record with a lift that electrified the crowd. 

Combined with her 121 kg Snatch earlier in the competition, she set a new Olympic Total of 275 kg, sealing her victory with a well-deserved gold medal.
