Pizzolato Antonino Wins his 2nd Olympic Bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics in Men’s 89 kg Weightlifting Category

Antonino “Nino” Pizzolato won his 2nd Olympic medal, with both being bronze (Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024). Pizzolato finished with a Total lifted weight of 384 kg, which was only one point higher than the 4th-placed Marin Robu. Pizzolato was cutting it close, but a win is a win.

In addition to the Olympics, Pizzolato is a three-time European champion (2019, 2021, and 2022) and a bronze medallist at the 2017 World Championships. Expectations were sky-high, and the bar was set high. Here’s how it happened.

Snatch

The snatch portion started off with a failed attempt at 172kg. The Italian quickly regained his composure and secured that weight on his 2nd try. On his last Snatch attempt, Pizzario tried to lift 176 kg but failed in the end.

Clean and Jerk

Nino Pizzaleto knew that he had to give it his best in the C&J in order to stand a chance of securing a place on the podium, so he started off with a high 212 kg. After struggling and failing his first two attempts, the Italian finally managed a 212 kg C&J, netting him 3rd placed in the total.

The gold medal went to the Bulgarian Karlos May Nasar, who also set two new Olympic records (Clean & Jerk 224 kg, and Total 404 kg). The silver medal went to Colombia’s Yeison LOPEZ

The gold medalist stunned his opposition with his remarkable C&J of 224 kg skyrocketing him to the top of the bracket.
