Li Wenwen Won Gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics (Women’s +81 kg)

The 2024 Olympic Games concluded with a display of raw power and determination in the Women’s +81 kg weightlifting category.

Chinese weightlifting superstar Li Wenwen successfully defended her Olympic title, adding another three gold medals to her impressive collection.

Li Wenwen, who previously claimed gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, entered the competition as the reigning world and Asian champion. She was the clear favorite, holding world records in the Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and total in the +87 kg division. Li did not disappoint, delivering a commanding performance that solidified her dominance in the sport.

The competition began with the Snatch exercise, where Li Wenwen set the bar high with her opening lift of 130 kg.

She then increased the weight to 136 kg, which she lifted successfully, securing the top spot in this round. Her nearest rival, Park Hyejeong from South Korea, lifted 131 kg, while Great Britain’s Emily Campbell finished in third with 126 kg.

In the Clean & Jerk round, Li Wenwen continued her reign by lifting 167 kg in her first attempt and then 173 kg in her second, clinching the gold in this category as well. Despite a failed attempt at 175 kg, her earlier lifts were more than enough to secure victory.

Park Hyejeong lifted 168 kg, earning the silver, while Emily Campbell’s 162 kg lift secured her the bronze. Li Wenwen’s combined total of 309 kg was unmatched, giving her the gold medal in the overall standings.
