From explosive snatches to heroic clean & jerks, the IWF Worlds 2025 proved once again why weightlifting continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Hereโ€™s a comprehensive review of all categories, stats, and key performances leading up to the championship.

General Review

The Weightlifting World Championships 2025 in Fรธrde, Norway will gather more than 600 athletes from over 100 countries, making it the yearโ€™s biggest stage for Olympic lifting.

As athletes continue their preparation for the 2025 IWF Worlds, the pre-championship season has been full of intense training, breakthrough lifts, and social media highlights.

The competition is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent memory, with rising stars challenging established champions in every weight category. Coaches are emphasizing technical precision, while nutrition and recovery have become crucial factors in peak performance.

New IWF Weight Categories

From June 1, 2025, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) introduced a new bodyweight structure with 8 categories per gender instead of 10.

  • Men: 60 kg, 65 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 94 kg, 110 kg, +110 kg
  • Women: 48 kg, 53 kg, 58 kg, 63 kg, 69 kg, 77 kg, 86 kg, +86 kg

For youth lifters, categories were also realigned to match this simplified format.

The change was made to create tighter competition, align with the Olympic program for Los Angeles 2028, and refresh the sport with new benchmarks. To support this, the IWF established new World Standards (97% of past record values) as the starting point for records in each class.

This reset marks the beginning of a new era in weightlifting history, with lifters and nations chasing fresh world records at the 2025 World Championships in Norway.

Oly Lifting Experience: 6 years
Best Results: Snatch – 57 kg,
C&J – 73 kg

Iโ€™m Vladyslava, and sport has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Over the past 10 years, Iโ€™ve explored it all โ€“ from CrossFit and powerlifting to running a half marathon. But my true passion found its home in Olympic weightlifting.

Iโ€™m proud to be a Ukrainian Weightlifting Champion (2018) and a prize winner of national championships in 2018โ€“2019. My best lifts? A 57 kg snatch and a 73 kg clean & jerk in the 51 kg weight class. Iโ€™m also a Candidate for Master of Sports in weightlifting โ€“ and Iโ€™m still chasing new goals every day.

Beyond training, Iโ€™ve earned two Masterโ€™s degrees: one in Sport Management and another in Physical Education. Whether Iโ€™m lifting a barbell or helping others grow in sport, Iโ€™m all in โ€“ because for me, sport isnโ€™t just a hobby, itโ€™s a lifestyle.
