WWC 2023, Day 12 – Women’s 87+ kg Results: Korean lifter takes total gold, but the Chinese gets insured and is out of the battle

Today we were watching the performance of the last Women’s division of the +87 kg at the Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh. It was the last chance for female athletes to demonstrate their excellent physical condition and readiness for the Olympic Games in Paris.
This time lifters from China, Korea, Ecuador, and USA were competing for the leadership in the category, with the Korean athlete dominating with her lifts at successful attempts. But, the supposed leader from China Li Wenwen dropped out from the competition because she injured her elbow.

Hyejeong Park from Korea totally prevailed on the podium with great results: 124 kg in Snatch, 165 kg in Clean&Jerk, and 289 kg in total.
By the way, she’s a promising weightlifter who has already gained numerous wins at World and Asian Championships. In 2022, she took three golds at the Junior Weightlifting Championships in Snatch, Clean&Jerk, and totals. However, in Bogota at the World Championships she got the 8th position.
An American lifter Mary Theisen got 13 kg less than the gold medalist, resulting with 277 kg total, 117 kg in Snatch, and 160 kg in Clean&Jerk that brought her silver.
Earlier she claimed a new women’s record in Clean&Jerk of 163 kg and also surpassed 2-time Olympic medalist Sarah Robles to win the overall gold at 278 kg (163 kg in C&J and 115 kg 8n Snatch). So, she set a new American record in the women’s super heavyweight class at the USA Open.
An Ecuadorian weightlifter Lisseth Ayovi secured third place by snatching 121 kg, jerked 155 kg, and got 276 kg in total. She also got numerous wins at the Championships: for example, Ayovi took two golds at the Bolivarian Games in 2022 held in Colombia. Then, she won the silver medal in C&J at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Bogota.
