The Colombian, Lopez Yeison, managed to secure 2nd place in the men’s 89 kg category after a snarling battle for the medals. Yeison managed to clear a total of 390 kg. Regardless of failing in his ambition of acquiring the gold medal, Lopez still stamped an amazing milestone in his career. This is only his first time in the Olympics, and we are bound to see more from Lopez in the future.

Snatch

Lopez successfully snatched 175kg on his first try; however, he failed his second attempt putting pressure on himself. The Colombian athlete ultimately managed 180 kg on the snatch (same as the gold medalist Karlos Nasar), which was only 2 kg short of Lopez’s WR which he placed in Phuket (IWF World Cup) back in April 2024.

Unfortunately, those 2 kgs wouldn’t have changed a thing for the silver medalist because Nasar simply proved his dominance on the Clean & Jerk. After the Snatch Lopez was sitting in 2nd place.

This placed Lopez in 2nd place in Total points, securing the silver Olympic medal and a place on the podium. An astounding achievement for the freshborn Olympian.

Bulgraia’s Nasar Karlos May won the gold, finishing with a massive combined total weight of 404 kg. This was predominantly because of Nasar’s colossal Clean & Jerk which propelled him to the top of his weight bracket without any challengers coming near.

A high 14 kg point difference between the 1st and 2nd-placed lifters.

In the end, congratulations are in order for the Colombian weightlifter for his accomplishments. And since his ambition of winning the gold medal still hasn’t been satisfied, we can be sure to see more of this proficient athlete.
