What Is the Pan-American Junior Weightlifting Championship?

The 2024 Pan-American Junior Weightlifting Championships took place in Palmira, Colombia. The championships attracted both male and female JUNIOR weightlifters from the North and South Americas. Organized in cooperation with the Pan-American Weightlifting Federation (PAWF) and the South American Confederation, this prestigious event featured participants competing in Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and combined weight for medals and for honor!

When Does the Pan-American Junior Weightlifting Championship Take Place?

The 2024 Pan-American Junior Weightlifting Championships was held from June 19 to June 25 in Palmira, Colombia.

Who Participates in the Pan-American Junior Weightlifting Championship?

The final list of participants comprised 241 competitors (124 women and 117 men) from 17 countries in the North American and South American Continents. The lifters were divided into a dozen weight brackets. Other than the weightlifters, there will be coaches, staff, judges, medical and security staff, volunteers, media personnel, and event organizers to ensure a smooth flow over the course of the championships.

General Review

The championships were held in the Ramiro Echeverry Sánchez Sports Complex (Palmira, Colombia). The event also included the South American Championships for the sub-15, sub-17, sub-20, and senior categories, showing the scope of the event.

Colombia, the hosting country, had the highest number of participating athletes (72 total; 35 W / 37 M), Chile came in second (27 total; 13 W / 14 M), and the USA third (20 total; 10 W / 10 M).

The event was live-streamed on the YouTube channels of the Pan-American Weightlifting Federation and the South American Confederations, as well as the Panam Sport app. This allowed fans worldwide to witness all the junior talents and prospects that will surely shape the future of the weightlifting world in one way or another.

Men’s 55 Kg:

  • Meza Domingo (Argentina) became the winner of his weight division and snatched gold: he finished with a 99 kg Snatch, 125 kg C&J, and 224 kg total.
  • Solorzano Angello (Venezuela) won the silver medal with a Snatch of 98 kg and Clean & Jerk of 124 kg, finishing with a total of 222 kg.
  • Hortiguera Bruno (Uruguay) did a 96 kg Snatch, managed a Clean & Jerk of 118 kg, and ended up with a total of 214 kg, winning the bronze medal.
  • 4th place: Grijalba Yilber (Colombia); Snatch 95 kg / C&J 118 kg / Total 213 kg
  • 5th place: Jordan Elkin (Ecuador); Snatch 95 kg / C&J 116 kg / Total 211 kg
  • 6th place: Andrade Samuel (Colombia); Snatch 95 kg / C&J 116 kg / Total 211 kg

Men’s 61 Kg:

  • Chhum Gabe (USA) won gold with a dominant victory after Snatching 121 kg and pulling off a massive 152 kg C&J, finishing with a total of 273 even after failing two Snatch attempts and forfeiting his last C&J lift. Tremendous effort by the American lifter!
  • Gonzalez Jose (Colombia) secured the silver medal after lifting 122 kg in Snatch, 142 kg in Clean & Jerk, and 264 kg in total.
  • Rincon Santiago (Colombia) managed to finish as the bronze medalist after closing with a 110 kg Snatch, 133 kg C&J, and 243 kg total.
  • 4th place: Torres Benjamin (Chile); Snatch 107 kg / C&J 132 kg / Total 239 kg
  • 5th place: Vargas Dionangel (Venezuela); Snatch 106 kg / C&J 132 kg / Total 238 kg
  • 6th place: Rivera Abraham (Venezuela); Snatch 105 kg / C&J 130 kg / Total 235 kg

Men’s 67 Kg:

  • Marquez Fabian (Venezuela) secured a clutch but well-deserved gold after a tight battle and a 1-point difference. The Venezuelan athlete scored 130 kg on the Snatch and 162 kg on the C&J and finished with 292 kg total.
  • Caicedo Daniel (Colombia) finished 2nd after lifting 131 kg Snatch, 160 kg C&J, and 291 kg in total — just one point shy of gold!
  • Vera Darwin (Ecuador) ended with a bronze medal after managing 117 kg in Snatch and 149 kg in C&J, netting a total of 266 kg.
  • 4th place: Riquelme Benjamin (Chile); Snatch 107 kg / C&J 137 kg / Total 244 kg
  • 5th place: King Marco (Chile); Snatch 96 kg / C&J 115 kg / Total 211 kg

Men’s 73 Kg:

  • Cahoy Caden (USA) won gold in his division after an effortless 143 kg Snatch and a dominant 182 kg C&J, sweeping the floor with his rivals; He scored a total of 325 kg. Solid weightlifting by Cahoy!
  • Olivares Sebastian (Colombia) took home the silver medal for his country after securing 136 kg in Snatch and 167 in C&J, finishing with 303 kg total.
  • Arango Reinner (Venezuela) managed to win the bronze placement with 131 kg on the Snatch, 160 kg on C&J, and 291 kg total. 
  • 4th place: Mcdonald Ryan (USA); Snatch 127 kg / C&J 151 kg / Total 278 kg
  • 5th place: Estupinan Erick (Ecuador); Snatch 116 kg / C&J 149 kg / Total 265 kg

  • Sena Jhon Taylor (Colombia) took home the gold medal after an impressive performance: he finished with 150 kg in Snatch, 173 kg in Clean & Jerk, and 323 kg in total.
  • Boles Hutton (USA) secured second place on the podium after a 144 kg Snatch, 174 kg in Clean & Jerk, and acquiring 318 kg in total.
  • Rodriguez Angel (Venezuela) took the bronze after lifting a 146 kg Snatch, 170 kg Clean & Jerk, and 316 kg total.
  • 4th place: Olivera Delfino Ramiro Valentin (Argentina); Snatch 115 kg / C&J 161 kg / Total 276 kg
  • 5th place: Marmanillo Frank Josue (Peru); Snatch 125 kg / C&J 150 kg / Total 275 kg

Men’s 89 Kg:

  • Albornoz Jokser (Colombia) easily cleared his division and took the gold after an impressive 155 kg in Snatch and 181 kg in Clean & Jerk, gaining him a total of 336 kg.
  • Loaiza Mauricio (Venezuela) took the silver medal after securing 143 kg on the Snatch, 176 kg on C&J, and pulling in 319 kg total.
  • Ramos Felipe (Brasil) ended the event as a bronze medalist after obtaining 142 kg on the Snatch, 173 kg on Clean & Jerk, accumulating Ramos 315 kg total.
  • 4th place: Ramirez Elkin (Ecuador); Snatch 135 kg / C&J 178 kg / Total 313 kg
  • 5th place: Martin JR Kyle (USA); Snatch 142 kg / C&J 170 kg / Total 312 kg
  • 6th place: Moreno Matias (Chile); Snatch 125 kg / C&J 160 kg / Total 285 kg

Men’s 96 Kg:

  • Davis Timothy (USA) breezed through his bracket after a 143 kg Snatch, and a tremendous 181 kg in Clean & Jerk, pocketing 324 kg total.
  • Diaz Luis (Ecuador) secured silver with 144 kg in Snatch, 173 kg in C&J, and 317 kg total.
  • Upmeyer George (USA) did solid on the Snatch by lifting 142 kg, keeping up with the competition but falling short on the C&J after managing 172 kg, bringing him a total of 314 kg and a 3rd-place finish.
  • 4th place: Leon Carlos (Venezuela); Snatch 137 kg / C&J 172 kg / Total 309 kg
  • 5th place: Lopez Ordonez Julio Abrahan De Jesus (Guatemala); Snatch 113 kg / C&J 140 kg / Total 253 kg

Men’s 102 Kg:

  • De Souza Matheus (Brasil) won gold in a tight battle with the second-placed lifter after lifting 157 kg in Snatch, 201 kg in Clean & Jerk, and 358 kg total.
  • Munoz Sergio (Colombia) finished with 353 kg total (after failing two of his attempts), winning the silver medal. He managed 156 kg on the Snatch, and 197 on the C&J.
  • Montoya Ronaldo (Venezuela) took home the bronze medal with the following results: 133 kg in Snatch, 162 kg in Clean & Jerk, and 295 kg total.

Men’s 109 Kg:

  • Diaz Daniel (Colombia) won gold in the Men’s 109 kg division by lifting a hefty Snatch of 150 kg, followed by a 186 C&J, leaving him with a 336 total and the 1st place.
  • Reis Colin (USA) took 2nd place in his weight division, securing silver for his country. He scored 140 kg in Snatch, 187 kg in Clean & Jerk, and 327 kg in total.
  • Alomia Hans (Ecuador) managed 130 kg in the Snatch exercise and 170 kg in C&J, netting a total of 300 kg.

Men’s 109+ Kg:

  • Bizama Alonso (Chile) brought home a well-deserved gold medal after great performances across both movements, rounding up his total to a whopping 348 kg. The Chilean lifted a 154 kg Snatch and 194 kg Clean & Jerk. Impressive effort!
  • Rosero Luis (Ecuador) came second in the heavyweight division with his 140 kg in Snatch, 180 kg in Clean & Jerk, and 320 kg in total.
  • Espinosa Luis (Venezuela) opted out of his second and third attempts in the C&J and in the end went home with the bronze medal after lifting 120 kg in the Snatch exercise and 158 kg in Clean & Jerk, acquiring a total of 278 kg.

Women’s JUNIOR Results

Women’s 45 kg:

  • Estrada Lawren (Colombia) won gold with her 67 kg Snatch and dominating 86 kg C&J, totalling to an impressive 153 kg. She could have gone for an even higher result but failed final attempts on both movements. 
  • Rondon Maria (Venezuela) finished her bracket in 2nd place with a 61 kg Snatch and 78 kg Clean & Jerk, ending with 139 kg total.
  • Arreaga Samantha (Ecuador) won the bronze medal after Snatching 62 kg, managing a 75 kg Clean & Jerk, and netting a total of 137 kg.
  • 4th place: Cardona Nafer (Colombia); Snatch 55 kg / C&J 70 kg / Total 125 kg
  • 5th place: Ortega Martina (Chile); Snatch 35 kg / C&J 40 kg / Total 75 kg

Women’s 49 kg:

  • The 49 kg Women’s bracket saw some turmoil, with Montilla Kerlys (Venezuela) clearing 1st in her weight class after 76 kg Snatch and 94 kg C&J (failing her last two attempts and keeping the audience in suspense). Montilla finished with a total of 170 kg.
  • Lopez Karol (Colombia) did a solid performance and won the silver medal after a 75 kg Snatch, 94 kg Clean & Jerk, and finishing with 169 kg total.
  • Rodriguez Isabella (USA) tragically missed her chance for gold after failing the first two Snatch attempts and finally scoring 72 kg and ending with a 96 kg C&J (failing her last two lifts). Rodriguez finished with 168 kg total, just 2 points shy of 1st place.
  • 4th place: Olivera Katerin (Peru); Snatch 71 kg / C&J 90 kg / Total 161 kg
  • 5th place: Alvarez Thaily (Ecuador); Snatch 69 kg / C&J 90 kg / Total 159 kg
  • 6th place: Cotua Ilona (Colombia); Snatch 66 kg / C&J 81 kg / Total 147 kg

Women’s 55 kg:

  • Torres Gelen (Colombia) easily acquired gold after a high 85 kg Snatch and an impressive 97 kg C&J, netting her an 182 kg total.
  • Fernandez Violeta (Paraguay) won the silver medal after lifting 78 kg in Snatch, 90 kg in Clean & Jerk, and getting 168 kg overall.
  • Batista Pinales Eiliana (Dominican Republic) came third and won the bronze after Snatching 74 kg, lifting 93 kg in Clean & Jerk, and ending with a total weight of 167 kg (just one point shy of the 2nd place).
  • 4th place: Calixto Karelis (Ecuador); Snatch 73 kg / C&J 90 kg / Total 163 kg
  • 5th place: Roman Carolina (Uruguay); Snatch 62 kg / C&J 82 kg / Total 144 kg

Women’s 59 kg:

  • Ulrey Miranda (USA) secured the gold medal in her bracket, showing dominance with a 97 kg Snatch and a 114 kg Clean & Jerk, ending with a total of 211 kg and towering above the rest of the group.
  • Vieira Julia (Brasil) became a silver medalist after managing 88 kg in Snatch and 108 kg in C&J, totalling to 196 kg.
  • Jimenez Yilihannys (Venezuela) finished with 82 kg in Snatch and 105 kg in C&J, earning her a total of 187 kg.
  • 4th place: Moncayo Brithany (Ecuador); Snatch 80 kg / C&J 105 kg / Total 185 kg
  • 5th place: Arriojas Marialquis (Venezuela); Snatch 81 kg / C&J 103 kg / Total 184 kg

  • Estep Katharine (USA) was successful in all of her attempts, finally scoring 98 kg in Snatch and 122 kg in Clean & Jerk, netting her a total of 220 and winning the gold medal.
  • Segura Ingrid (Colombia) missed her golden opportunity after showing an amazing performance in the Snatch with a 99 kg lift but struggling in C&J on the first two attempts and finishing with 120 kg. She ended with a total of 219 — just one point away from the 1st placement. Unfortunate result for the Colombian lifter.
  • Palacios Jessica (Ecuador) won the bronze medal with 93 kg in Snatch, 115 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a total of 208 kg.
  • 4th place: Rengifo Claudia (Venezuela); Snatch 90 kg / C&J 114 kg / Total 204 kg
  • 5th place: Gimenez Martina (Argentina); Snatch 88 kg / C&J 113 kg / Total 201 kg

  • Simoneau Charlotte (Canada) finished first in her bracket after lifting solid 107 kg in Snatch and 127 kg in Clean & Jerk, totalling to 234 kg.
  • Nazareno Damaris (Ecuador) had an impressive 121 kg C&J result, but failed her last two Snatch attempts and ended with 99 kg in Snatch, finishing with 220 kg and earning her the silver medal. 
  • Caamano Nicole (USA) finished in 3rd place after a 96 kg Snatch, 115 kg Clean & Jerk, and 211 kg total.

  • Nicholson Ella (USA) dominated her category with a 110 kg finish in Snatch and 125 kg in Clean & Jerk, ending up with a high 235 kg total, earning her the gold medal.
  • Cerquera Ivanna (Colombia) secured the silver with a 93 kg Snatch, 121 kg Clean & Jerk, and 214 kg total.
  • Ballard Alyssa (USA) finished 3rd with 92 kg in the Snatch and 119 kg in Clean & Jerk, totalling to 211 kg.
  • 4th place: Beaudoin Rose (Canada); Snatch 93 kg / C&J 113 kg / Total 206 kg

Women’s 81 kg:

  • Bolanos Martha (Ecuador) won the gold medal after scoring 92 kg in the Snatch, 113 kg in Clean & Jerk, and 205 kg total.
  • Segura Maricela (Colombia) won a clutch 2nd place after failing her final attempts on both movements. She finished with 83 kg in Snatch, 114 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a 197 kg total.
  • Aparicio Lidysmar (Venezuela) missed her opportunity for silver after failing her last two attempts in the Snatch and the final attempt in C&J. She won the bronze after 86 kg in the Snatch, 110 kg in Clean & Jerk, and 196 kg in total.
  • 4th place: De Leon Cardoza Beverly Shanen (Guatemala); Snatch 82 kg / C&J 102 kg / Total 184 kg
  • 5th place: Barrientos Victoria (Chile); Snatch 83 kg / C&J 98 kg / Total 181 kg

Women’s 87 kg:

  • Ruiz Valeria (Colombia) won a clutch gold medal with a 1-point difference. She got 98 kg in Snatch and 125 kg in Clean & Jerk, finishing with 223 kg total.
  • Robles Amanda (USA) missed the opportunity to strategize better on her last 103 kg Snatch attempt, possibly winning her the gold. She ultimately finished 2nd with a 99 kg Snatch, 123 kg C&J, and 222 kg total.
  • Henryquez Zoreanny (Venezuela) came in 3rd place with 92 kg in Snatch, 105 kg in C&J, netting her 197 kg total in the end.
  • 4th place: Rojas Valentina (Chile); Snatch 79 kg / C&J 100 kg / Total 179 kg

Women’s 87+ kg:

  • Justino Taiane (Brasil) took gold with a 106 kg finish in Snatch, 135 kg in C&J (foregoing her last attempt), and 241 kg total.
  • Pavez Arantzazu (Chile) did her best to win her bracket but finished silver in the end. She did 107 kg in Snatch, and 133 kg in Clean & Jerk, netting her a total of 240 kg.
  • Tysford Yaira (Colombia) managed a 3rd-place finish with 105 kg in Snatch and 132 kg in C&J, lifting a total of 237 kg.
  • 4th place: Pavon Leidy (Ecuador); Snatch 94 kg / C&J 120 kg / Total 214 kg
  • 5th place: Billen Angel (Canada); Snatch 90 kg / C&J 123 kg / Total 213 kg
  • 6th place: Mendoza Barbara (Venezuela); Snatch 91 kg / C&J 105 kg / Total 196 kg

Final Thoughts

The event concluded on the 25th of June with the host country, Colombia, and Team USA achieving astounding success. Colombia emerged as the top-ranked country in medals won by securing 49 medals in total (19 gold / 20 silver / 10 bronze). The United States followed closely with 39 medals (19 gold / 8 silver / 12 bronze), matching Colombia’s 19 golds.

The event was a feast for weightlifting enthusiasts, as it featured close battles in some of the weight brackets and complete dominance in others.

The event highlighted junior weightlifters in the Americas who are set to have a tremendous impact on the world of weightlifting, such as Bizama Alonso (Chile), Albornoz Jokser (Colombia), Cahoy Caden (USA), Nicholson Ella (USA), Estrada Lawren (Colombia), and more; these were just a few of the highlights from an extensive list of very talented competitors.

With the event being successfully concluded, we can eagerly anticipate the next Pan-American Weightlifting event and other competitions where these juniors will participate and showcase their talents!
