WWC 2023, Day 9 – Women’s 71 kg Results: China and USA set World Records in C&J and totals

Wednesday evening brought us long-awaited results in the category of Women’s 71 kg. Already known female lifters who are the supposed leaders such as Giulia Miserendino, Kate Vibert, and Toma Loredana previously demonstrated their decent physical condition and strong determination. However, the final results presented us with absolutely another rating and incredible lifts.

The 9th day of the WWC Qualifying event presented the following list of the Top 3 leaders in the category:

The gold medal came to a representative of China Liao Guifang who even set two Senior World Records in C&J and totals. She dominated today without exaggeration: she lifted 120 kg in Snatch, 152 kg – Clean & Jerk, and a total of 273 kg.

Angie Dajomes Palacios from Ecuador took second place with a total of 255 kg, 117kg in Snatch and 138 kg in Clean & Jerk. Just imagine: she lost 18 kg compared to the winner’s results.

The bronze medal was taken by the American athlete Olivia Reeves who also set two records, namely Junior World Records in C&J and totals. She did 253 kg in total, 111 kg in Snatch, and 142 kg in Clean & Jerk.

It needs to be mentioned that our top athletes have already gained awards at the previous national and world championships. We’d like to remind you of the most outstanding accomplishments in this weight class:

Liao Guifang succeeded to set two world records in Snatch and totals at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2023, with 120 kg and 268 kg accordingly. But today she impressed everyone with 273 kilos.

Angie Dajomes Palacios is believed to be the leader of the Pan American Championships 2023 in Bogota due to her total of 248 kg that brought her gold.

Olivia Reeves is also known for her gold wins at the Junior Pan-American Games in the 76 kg weight division. She also got silver in Snatch at the WWC 2021 in Tashkent in the 71 g weight class. While C&J brought her bronze in the WWC in Bogota 2022.

Overally, today’s contest was pretty eye-grabbing and thrilling: new Senior and Junior world records were set, while new medalists in the 71 kg weight division did their best to be head-to-head with the leaders.
