WWC 2023, Day 8 – Men’s 89 kg Results: the return of World Champions and a new winner reveal from Iran
Author:
Let’s admit: everyone was waiting for the performance in the category of Men’s 89 kg as it’s ranked to be one of the most competitive ones in this WWC Qualifying event.
We also had high hopes for the supposed leaders in this division, namely Li Dayin, Tian Tao, Nino Pizzolato, and Keydomar.
However, things turned out differently, and other lifters prevailed in this contest. The first place was taken unexpectedly by the representative of Iran, Mostafa Javadi who wasn’t among the leaders from the beginning. Nevertheless, the second and third places came to China and Venezuela respectively.
So, after long-awaiting results and spectacular performances of the male weightlifters, finally we got the official confirmation of today’s evening score table. Iran, China, and Venezuela got on the podium today due to their unbelievable lifts:
The gold medal winner became Mostafa Javadi from Iran with a powerful 384 kg in total, Snatch of 169 kg, and Clean & Jerk of 215 kg.
The second place moved to the athlete from China Li Dayin who did 383 kg in total, 170 kg in Snatch, and 213 kg in Clean & Jerk.
And closing the Top list, an athlete from Venezuela Keydomar Vallenilla took bronze with 171 kg in Snatch, 210 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a total of 381 kg.
To sum up, we supposed that the Chinese team would perform better and win more medals. Apparently, Tian Tao failed both in Snatch and Clean & Jerk. But, an interesting fact claims that he’s a current World Record holder of C&J of 222 kg who defeated Karlos Nasar by one kilogram at the Asian Championships in Jinju 2023.
Another ambitious Chinese weightlifter Li Dayin succeeded in saving silver this time with 170 kg in Snatch and 213 kg in C&J. By the way, he’s also a current World Record holder in Snatch: he lifted 180 kg at the World Championships in Bogota 2022 by getting gold in his category.
Our today’s winner Mostafa Javadi previously won bronze at the Asian Championships in Jinju and silver at the World Championships in Tashkent 2021. This time he showed his best and lifted heavier weights by improving his prior total result by 20 kilograms.
Keydomar Vallenilla managed to improve his previous best result at the Pan-American Championships: C&J became better by 4 kilograms and the total by 6 kilograms.
