DMoose Dip Belt for Weightlifting

  • Closure type: carabiner
  • Available sizes: one size (33” long)
  • Waist size range: one size fits all
  • Width: 6”
  • Hanging type: metal chain
  • Chain length: 36”
  • Material: Neoprene, Nylon

DMoose gets the title of the best weighted dip belt for being well-balanced in all terms. It combines decent quality and affordable price, allowing any athlete to take their favorite bodyweight exercises to the next level.

This dipping belt might be a great choice for those who value comfort. It is made of soft material and neoprene padding to provide a snug fit along with good back support. Such a design can make you do another few reps in a set rather than want to take it off right away.

The affordable price is a great bonus for beginners and intermediate athletes who are not experienced gear buyers yet. On top of that, the quality doesn’t fall behind other nylon dipping belts.

As for the drawbacks, the stitching and the closure system have some flaws and aren’t completely reliable when it comes to really heavy weights. Thus, if you constantly work with extreme loads, you better choose a more advanced option. Still, if you don’t go beyond intermediate workouts, this belt might meet all your expectations.

All in all, the DMoose dip belt is a decent and affordable tool to accompany any intermediate athlete.

2. Dominion Leather Dip Belt – Runner-Up

Dominion Leather Dip Belt

  • Closure type: carabiner
  • Available sizes: one size (34”)
  • Waist size range: one size fits all
  • Width: 4”
  • Hanging type: metal chain
  • Chain length: 36”
  • Material: Leather

Dominion dip belt is a premium option for advanced athletes who are ready to invest in first-class gear. Obviously, this product is not as affordable as the winner, still, the quality leaves no doubt.

First of all, the belt is made of leather which puts it among the most sturdy and durable products. Moreover, the brand also takes care of stitching to make their belt highly reliable and resistant, so even the most passionate athletes can rely on it.

The design speaks for itself, too. It is very elaborate, pro-looking, and old-school. Some of your fellows may even think that you got it from your dad. Well, perhaps, you can really pass such a belt to your children.

As for the drawbacks, it may not be comfortable for all athletes. The belt is quite rigid, so don’t wait for a snug fit. Still, it is not annoying – comfort is just not its first purpose.

Another drawback, which is the biggest one, is the price. Obviously, it is not a starter product. Yet, if you are on a tight budget and don’t work with extreme weights, scroll up or down and have a look at more amateur-friendly options on my list.

All in all, if you want to invest only once and get an everlasting pro dipping belt, have a look at Dominion.

Harbinger Polypropylene Dip Belt

  • Closure type: carabiner
  • Available sizes: one size (32” long)
  • Waist size range: one size fits all
  • Width: 5”
  • Hanging type: metal chain
  • Chain length: 30”
  • Material: Polypropylene

Harbinger weightlifting belt with chain is another popular and affordable product on the market. It is a workable thing for intermediate training and moderate weights.

The chain’s reliability and material stitching make it a decent dipping belt for regular gym goers. However, I would not recommend using it for advanced lifters who need a completely reliable heavy-duty option.

Though the stitching looks neat and fine, some dip belt reviews say that it can fail after a few months of extreme loads. Still, if you are an amateur athlete looking for some training variety, give it a chance.

Anyway, Harbinger might be a good choice for athletes who like lightweight gear. The back width is only 5” whereas other brands offer 6 or even 7 inches. Therefore, it isn’t bulky and fits your waist comfortably.

Another drawback that makes Harbinger not the best choice for advanced training is the chain length. It is only 30” and may be too short if you are going to hang several heavy plates on it. In this case, check out longer options on my list and be always ready to challenge yourself.

All in all, Harbinger is another amateur-focused dip belt that behaves well in case of moderate training.

ROGUE DIP BELT

  • Closure type: carabiner
  • Available sizes: one size
  • Waist size range: one size fits all
  • Width: 4”
  • Hanging type: metal chain
  • Chain length: 30”
  • Material: Nylon

Rogue dip belt is one of the most popular options on the market. Athletes rely on it since the brand is known for making high-quality gear.

This belt is also famous for its durability. You may notice at once that it has so much stitching that it is unlikely to fall apart because of a heavy weight. However, it may be a disadvantage as well. After a few months of intensive training, you might find some fraying or white sticking threads at the seams that are very visible on the black background.

The logo is not that durable as well. Generally, it is an aesthetic issue as this flaw doesn’t influence the effectiveness of the belt. Still, if you like everything in order, you may find it annoying.

Nevertheless, the belt performs its task perfectly well. The chain can really handle the most extreme weight. All elements are also very reliable.

All in all, go for the Rogue dip belt if you seek complete reliability but aren’t crazy about neatness.

HYPELETICS Weighted Dip Belt

  • Closure type: carabiner
  • Available sizes: Small/Regular
  • Waist size range: 23”-40”
  • Width: 7”
  • Hanging type: nylon strap
  • Strap length: 40”
  • Material: Neoprene

HYPELETICS dip belt is a good starter option for intermediate athletes who need a versatile product.

The main peculiarity of this belt is a long handy strap instead of a metal chain. On the one hand, it makes the belt less reliable and suitable for extreme weights. Obviously, a sturdy metal chain will give you more confidence and courage to hang a couple more plates.

On the other hand, a strap is a more versatile and convenient option. Firstly, it can be put through the tinniest hole whereas chains often have problems with that.

Secondly, it is far longer than any chain which gives it much more versatility. Thus, you can hang even the biggest weight and it will still be in a comfortable position without digging into your legs. And you can adjust the length or wrap the strap several times in case it is too long.

Another benefit is the belt’s closure system. It directs the strap beyond your crotch and doesn’t cause any irritation or discomfort while moving around.

One more thing that is worth mentioning is sizing. HYPELETICS want to make their dip belt suitable for everyone equally well, so they offer two sizes – small and regular. The first one will be a sight for sore eyes if you are a female athlete who is tired of bulky man-focused products. On top of that, you can choose among several catchy designs available.

All in all, the HYPELETICS dip belt is meant to comfort any athlete, and it really does. Just don’t overload it too much!

Dark Iron Fitness Dip Belt

  • Available sizes: one size (32” long)
  • Waist size range: one size fits all
  • Width: 4”
  • Hanging type: nylon strap
  • Strap length: 40”
  • Material: Leather

Another popular and well-loved product is the Dark Iron dip belt. It offers a good balance in terms of back support and overall comfort, though it has some stitching issues.

To begin with, it is made of leather which is meant to be more durable and handle the most extreme weights. However, the overall look is a bit deceiving – the stitching is not that reliable at all. Many athletes complain about tears after really heavy sets. The problem is that the loops for holding a weighted strap are made of nylon, compared to Dominion, for example, which is entirely built of leather.

Still, it works well for moderate loads. Just like the previous option, it has a strap instead of a metal chain. As I have mentioned before, such a decision has plenty of benefits. It is also a more gym-friendly option due to one more reason – the absence of noise.

Another benefit for beginner and intermediate athletes is that the strap doesn’t add any load to your preferred weight. It makes it easier to control and count kilograms if you have just started and don’t reach out for huge weights yet.

All in all, Dark Iron offers a handy dipping belt for moderate training, though it isn’t completely safe once you enter the advanced level.

 Gymreapers Dip Belt

  • Closure type: carabiner
  • Available sizes: one size (33” long)
  • Waist size range: one size fits all
  • Width: 7”
  • Hanging type: metal chain
  • Chain length: 30”
  • Material: Neoprene

Gymreapers dipping belt is another decent product on the market. It is well-built, durable, and reliable.

This option has almost everything in order – good stitching, a high-quality chain, and comfortable back support. Still, one tiny flaw might make it not suitable for the heaviest sets – a short metal chain. It is only 30” long, thus, may cause some difficulties when loading several thick plates on it. Of course, it does have enough room for most weights, yet, it might place them too high between your legs, making you pray to finish the set as quickly as possible.

Another fault that may bother you is possible chain defects, such as sharp edges. Many athletes complain that the chain is not smooth enough and you may even cut your palm with tiny burrs. I was lucky enough not to have a similar experience, though my chain had some minor flaws, too. Thus, you better have a precise look at your belt to avoid injuries.

All in all, the Gymreapers dip belt may be a good choice if you don’t need to hang plenty of plates on it. And beware of the chain!

Hawk Fitness Dip Belt

  • Waist size range: one size fits all
  • Width: 6”
  • Hanging type: metal chain
  • Chain length: 36”
  • Material: Neoprene

Hawk dipping belt is also a popular and good choice, however, a relatively high price puts it that low on my list. Frankly, you can get the same quality and save some cash by picking any other option above.

Still, Hawk dip belt has something worthy to offer us. First of all, it’s all about comfort. Neoprene padding makes it really snug on the back. On top of that, the sides are rounded to grasp your skin even better.

The second benefit is a long chain to handle thick plates successfully. If you are into heavy lifting, you may find this belt a good match.

As for the drawbacks, the stitching might not be as durable as you expect. If you get this belt to work with extreme weights comfortably, it might not endure years of harsh training. Still, if you are rather gentle and careful, it may serve you for quite a while.

All in all, the Hawk dip belt is a good option for heavy, yet, comfortable workouts, though it might not stay with you for years.

How Have I Chosen the Best Dipping Belt?

In order to choose the best dipping belt, I have evaluated the main qualities. Find out what they stand for and why I consider them important.

Design

Dip Belt in Use

Design determines the structure of a belt: how it is built, how practical and effective all elements are, and how a brand tries to meet your needs.

The main things that can make a belt stand out and get 10 points are its form, chain type and length, and element arrangement.

Comfort

Dip Belt in Use

Obviously, nylon and neoprene belts fit more comfortably than any leather belt. They are soft, flexible, and snug. The latter option may be sometimes harsh on your skin, but some other benefits usually compensate for such rigidity.

The hanging system also has its word on comfort. A sturdy chain crossing your pubis can sometimes distract you more than a nylon strap.

Material and Stitching

Dip Belt in Use

The material and stitching are key features when it comes to durability. As for the first one, entirely leather belts are definitely more resistant and mean to handle more weight. Nylon and neoprene belts, even if well-built, might not endure all those hard times that leather options can.

Additionally, the stitching can change the whole picture. If a leather belt is poorly put together, it may fall behind a high-quality nylon product. Always have a precise look at the seams and threads if you aim to work with extreme weights. First of all, it is a safety issue.

Chain Reliability

Dip Belt

Another important feature for advanced athletes is chain reliability. Of course, this element can be replaced if something happens, but it’s better to invest in a decent product at once.

The biggest issue is usually a carabiner. It might fail after a few sessions or months but, anyway, it is also a safety issue. Thus, when choosing a belt for the heaviest loads, make sure it has a reliable chain and carabiner.

There are also some belts with a nylon strap for hanging weights. Such options are very amateur-friendly – convenient and versatile. Yet, they are not 100% reliable for extreme sets.

Back Support

Dip Belt

Though support is not the very first purpose of a dipping belt, it may be important for some athletes. All products on my list provide more or less the same stability in the back area. However, wider options might feel more snug and bracing. Also, leather belts are more rigid and give you a better sense of fixation.

Price-Quality

For me, DMoose offers the best value for money. If you want to spend a reasonable sum and get a workable thing for your pull-up and dips, go for this option. On the other hand, if you need a really advanced dipping belt, make a long-term investment in Dominion.

How to Pick a Dip Belt?

If you are in two minds while choosing a dipping belt, read this brief guide and analyze your needs once again.

Chain vs Strap

The main difference that can make you puzzled is the hanging system. Some belts have a heavy-duty chain to hold a weight, and others offer you a nylon strap.

The first option is a traditional solution, time-tested, and reliable even for the heaviest weights. If you pick a good chain, you can be sure of your safety while hitting literally any weight. The only thing that sometimes fails is the carabiner. Just keep your eye on that and replace it in case any flaws are noticed.

A strap is an innovation that makes a belt more versatile and amateur-friendly. If you work with light or moderate weights, you can try it out with no fear. Such a belt is more adjustable to work for any athlete, any exercise, and any weight type. You can regulate the length of both a belt and its strap to reach desirable tightness and weight placement. Also, you can fasten literally any weight with a strap even if a hole is really small and doesn’t let any chain inside.

Material

If you are looking for a comfortable and affordable weighted pull up belt, have a look at nylon options. They are snug and the price is usually reasonable. They are not as durable, though.

Tips From the Champ

If you need a really heavy-duty dipping belt to keep for years and be always ready to choose the heaviest plates, you better check out leather belts. Still, pay attention to the elements connecting a belt with a chain – any nylon loops can decrease a belt’s reliability.

Olympic Weightlifting Champion

Chain Length

If you are not going to hang a few thick plates on your future belt, the chain length doesn’t make much difference for you.

However, if you are really serious about your pull-ups or dips, you better choose a longer chain. It will provide more room for working even with some big weights and keeping everything in a comfortable position.

Sizing

Most dip belts have one size that fits all. However, if you are a tiny female athlete, have a look at some brands that offer small belts for a comfortable fit. They won’t be as bulky and long as regular options.

Dip Belt

Exercises with Dip Belt

A dip belt is mainly used for three basic bodyweight exercises: pull-ups, chin-ups, and weighted dipsUsually, such exercises don’t let you progress in terms of loads, you can only add some reps to challenge yourself.

However, a weighted belt for dips allows you to stress the muscles, making them grow big and strong. Generally, you can start using this accessory when you can easily perform 12-15 reps of an exercise.

Apart from that, you can do belt squats or calf raises. The first one allows you to shift the stress from your spine to the legs. As for the latter, it may be difficult to find a special machine while a dip belt is really accessible and handy. Thus, you can perform a versatile and effective workout even at home with minimum equipment.

How to Use a Dip Belt?

First of all, place a belt on your back to fit comfortably. Then put a chain or a strap into a D-ring.

Choose a desirable weight – a plate or a kettlebell. Put a chain tail into a hole and clip a carabiner to the other D-ring. Do it with the weight on the ground or another surface.

Be very careful while raising and moving around with a heavy weight. Do not rush. Set up the starting position for a chosen exercise. Perform it smoothly and controllably to keep the balance.

FAQ

How much weight can a dip belt hold?

An average dip belt can successfully hold around 250 pounds, depending on the design, material, and stitching quality.

How does a dip belt stay on?

Usually, a dip belt has a carabiner to fasten a chain and connect two ends. When you put it in a D-ring and hang a weight, the whole belt tightens up and stays on. Still, some belts have additional closure systems.

Can you squat with a dip belt?

Yes, you can squat with a dip belt, but make sure to choose a reliable option if you work with heavy weights.

Can you use a dip belt for deadlifts?

No, a dip belt isn’t used for the deadlift. Usually, athletes perform pull-ups, dips, and squats with it.

My Verdict

To cut a long story short, go for our winner – the DMoose dip belt – if you strive to step up your usual bodyweight exercises. And if you are an experienced heavy lifter who is ready to splash out on a pro option, have a look at the Dominion belt with chain.

    Hi @Lorenzo!

To perform weighted dips with a belt, start by securing a weight plate to a dipping belt using the provided hooks. Then, grip the parallel bars firmly with your hands and keep your body upright. Slowly lower yourself by bending your elbows until your upper arms are parallel to the ground. Push yourself back up to the starting position. Make sure to use a weight that challenges you while maintaining proper form to ensure a safe and effective workout.
