In an exhilarating display at the Paris Olympics 2024, Hou Zhihui set a new Olympic record in the women’s up to 49 kg weight category by lifting 117 kg in the Clean and Jerk. This remarkable achievement secured her the olympic gold medal, edging out Michaela Cambei by just one kilo.

Hou Zhihui’s first attempt was successful at 110 kg. Despite a miss on her second attempt at 117 kg, she made a stunning comeback on her third attempt, successfully lifting the weight and setting a new Olympic record.

The battle between Cambei and Zhihui was intense and unpredictable until the final attempts of both athletes. This decisive 117 Clean and Jerk lift was not only Zhihui’s final attempt but also the final attempt of the whole session, sealing her victory in dramatic fashion.
