Lesman Paredes Montano

From Colombia to Bahrain’s Weightlifting Star

Lesman Paredes Montano was born on March 5th, 1996, in Cali, Colombia. he first competed in Colombia and won a gold medal at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships in the 96 kg category. At that event, he set a world record with a snatch of 187 kg and lifted a total of 400 kg with his 213 kg clean and jerk.

In 2022, he made a big career move when he switched national affiliations to represent Bahrain. This decision was part of a broader trend where athletes change countries for better training facilities and support. His new affiliation didn’t slow him down; in fact, it seemed to push him to even greater achievements.

At the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships held in Bogotá, Colombia, he won gold in the men’s 96 kg event once again, reinforcing his position as one of the top weightlifters in the world. In addition to that, Paredes continued his success with a gold medal performance at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Manama, Bahrain.

Despite having achieved a lot, he has faced some challenges along the way, like having to adapt to new training environments and competition schedules. Still, he stayed dedicated to both the sport and his new home country.
