South Korea’s Dynamic Weightlifting Talent

Jang Yeon-hak was born on February 14th, 1997, and he’s a prominent South Korean weightlifter known for his achievements in different international competitions. He started in the 85 kg category and won bronze at the 2017 Summer Universiade and silver at the 2018 Asian Games. He transitioned to the 89 kg category and then to the 96 kg category. He won multiple medals, including a bronze at the 2020 Asian Championships. In 2023, he moved to the 102 kg category and won a silver medal at the IWF World Championships. Jang continues to represent South Korea on the international stage with some big results. 

He started out in the 85 kg category and won a bronze medal at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei. He lifted 163 kg in the snatch and 191 kg in the clean and jerk, which totaled to 354 kg. In 2018, he won a silver medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, lifting 165 kg in the snatch and 195 kg in the clean and jerk.

Jang later moved to the 89 kg category and ranked 5th at the 2019 Asian Championships with a 166 kg snatch and 190 kg clean and jerk, totaling 356 kg. He then moved to the 96 kg category, where he won a gold medal at the Cup of the Blue Swords in 2019 with lifts of 165 kg in the snatch and 195 kg in the clean and jerk. 

In 2020, Jang won  a bronze medal at the Asian Championships with a 174 kg snatch and 205 kg clean and jerk. By 2022, he competed in the IWF World Championships in the 96 kg category and lifted 206 kg in the clean and jerk.

In 2023, he switched to the 102 kg category and won bronze at the Asian Championships  with a 182 kg snatch and 210 kg clean and jerk. At the IWF World Championships, he earned silver when he lifted 182 kg in the snatch and 217 kg clean and jerk – 399 kg in total. 

He competed in the Asian Championships and the IWF World Cup in 2024, in the 102 kg category. He lifted 175 kg in the snatch.
