Bulgaria’s Weightlifting Star in the 73 kg Category

Bozhidar Dimitrov Andreev was born on January 17th, 1997, and he’s a successful Bulgarian weightlifter. He’s made a name for himself thanks to his remarkable achievements, including two European Championship titles and a gold medal at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. 

In 2014, he won a gold medal in the 69 kg category at the Summer Youth Olympics, which was a stepping stone to his future successes in senior competitions. 

In 2016, he competed in the European Championships in the 77 kg category and finished in fourth place with a total lift of 344 kg. In 2018, just after the weight classes were restructured, he competed in the newly created 73 kg division at the World Weightlifting Championships and finished in ninth place. 

His breakthrough came in 2019 when he competed in the European Weightlifting Championships in the 73 kg division. He won a bronze medal in the snatch and gold medals in both the clean and jerk and total, and lifted a total weight of 345 kg. Later that same year, he competed in the IWF World Championships and lifted a total of 346 kg (157 kg in the snatch and 189 kg in the clean and jerk), which put him in third place. 

He represented Bulgaria at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and finished fifth with a total lift of 338 kg, so his impressive career was now richer for an Olympic experience. 

In 2022, Andreev’s success continued at the European Championships, where he competed in the 81 kg category. He won the bronze medal with a total lift of 343 kg, which showed he was able to compete at a high level in different weight categories. He was even more successful in 2024 and won the gold medal in the 73 kg category with a total lift of 348 kg. 

In addition to his European and World Championship successes, Andreev has shown his versatility by competing in different weight categories and maintaining high levels of performance. He started young and over the years, he has consistently demonstrated his ability to adapt and excel.
