Giulia Imperio, born December 7th, 2001, in Grottaglie, Italy, is an Italian weightlifter competing in the 49 kg weight class. Known for her steady progression through youth, junior, and senior competitions, she has established herself as one of Italy’s leading female lifters.
Giulia began competing internationally at a young age, earning silver at the 2018 European Youth Weightlifting Championships in the 48 kg category. That same year, she represented Italy at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires and competed in junior and U23 European and World Championships, signaling her potential on the global stage. In 2019, she won bronze in snatch at the Junior World Championships in Suva, Fiji, further highlighting her rising talent.
Her breakthrough at the senior level came in 2021 when she claimed bronze in the snatch at the European Weightlifting Championships. A year later, Giulia rose to the top of the European podium, winning gold in the 49 kg category at the 2022 European Weightlifting Championships in Tirana, Albania, with a total of 171 kg (79 kg snatch, 92 kg clean&jerk). She also won double gold at the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria, cementing her status as a top European competitor.
Giulia continued her success in 2023 at the European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan, where she earned silver in the 49 kg category with lifts of 83 kg in snatch, 100 kg in clean&jerk, totaling 183 kg. She also competed at the 2023 World Championships in Riyadh, finishing 11th with a total of 183 kg, maintaining her presence on the global stage.
