Jourdan Delacruz
Rising Star in American Weightlifting
Jourdan Elizabeth Delacruz was born on May 20th, 1998, and she’s a prominent American weightlifter known for her impressive achievements in the sport. She won a bronze medal at the World Weightlifting Championships and has earned four medals, three of which were gold, at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships. In 2021, she represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and showcased her talents on the world stage.
Her career started getting international attention when she won the silver medal in the women’s 53 kg event at the 2018 Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Later that year, she competed in the women’s 55 kg event at the World Weightlifting Championships in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
In 2019, she won the gold medal in the women’s 55 kg event at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She also competed in the women’s 55 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, and finished in fourth place. That same year, she participated in the women’s 55 kg event at the World Weightlifting Championships in Pattaya, Thailand. After this competition, she transitioned to the 49 kg weight class and won gold at the 2019 International Naim Suleymanoglu Tournament in Gaziantep, Turkey.
Her success continued in 2020. She won the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg event at the Roma 2020 World Cup in Rome, Italy. She also got gold medals in both the 49 kg snatch and the 49 kg clean and jerk events. In 2021, she won the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg event at the 2020 Pan American Weightlifting Championships held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, including golds in the snatch and the clean and jerk.
At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Delacruz competed in the women’s 49 kg event but despite her performance being really strong, she didn’t rank after failing to register a result in the clean and jerk. She bounced back, though, and won the silver medal in her event at the 2022 Pan American Weightlifting Championships held in Bogota, Colombia, and got gold in the clean and jerk.
In 2023, she won gold at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Bariloche, Argentina, along with golds in the snatch and the clean and jerk. She also got bronze in the women’s 49 kg event at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships in Saudi Arabia.
She’s a registered dietitian student and has recently launched “Herathlete”, which is a platform focusing on nutrition and performance for female athletes. She always emphasizes the importance of mental preparation, resilience, and a supportive community.
