WWC 2023, Day 12 – Men’s 109 kg Results: Uzbekistani total control at the platform by getting five medals overall

Finally, we waited for the competition in the heavyweight Men’s category of 109 kg (despite tomorrow’s 109+ kg division). This long-awaited battle at the WWC Qualifying event of super strong weightlifters amazed us with weights lifted, as well as we got new leaders who succeeded to qualify for the Olympic Games.
So, here’s the best of the best: the medal holders of the 109 kg weight class showed their high confidence and strength by proving them with exemplary results.

The gold medalist was Akbar Djuraev from Uzbekistan who took overall 415 kg, with a Snatch of 189 kg and 226 kg in Clean&Jerk.
He’s a well-known Olympic Champion and Junior World Champion, and also an Uzbekistani prodigy. He won gold at the Summer Olympics 2020 in Tokyo, took a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent with a total of 433 kg, and saved bronze at the Asian Championships in Jinju. Additionally, he’s the current junior world record holder in the Snatch and total in the 102 kg weight division, as well as the Snatch, Clean&Jerk and total in the 109 kg weight class.
The second place went to his teammate Ruslan Nurudinov who did his maximum by lifting 180 kg in Snatch, 227kg in Clean&Jerk, and totally he got 407 kg. He’s the current world record holder in C&J of 241 kg he set in Tashkent. However, the prior amazing results didn’t get in a way to take gold this time with 227 kg. As well as on the last competition that was the Asian Championships in Jinju, he clinched gold with the result of 177-228-405.
Dadash Dadashbayli from Azerbaijan saved bronze with the total result of 403 kg, 180 kg in Snatch, and 223 kg in Clean&Jerk. He also secured bronze at the European Championships 2021 in Moscow in the 102 kg weight class. In 2023 he took gold at the CIS Games in the 109 kg division.
