Promix was founded in 2011 after a gap was noticed in the supplement market between high-quality ingredients and product ranges. Promix aims to produce scientifically-driven products that offer ingredients that have proven performance benefits. Each ingredient is rigorously tested before going in a product.

The Promix Pre-workout is an all-natural pre with four main ingredients. Each serving includes 200mg of caffeine, 3.2 grams of Beta-alanine, 3 grams of L-Tyrosine, and 1 gram of Taurine. Promix has also included a stim-free version without caffeine and a tingle-free version without Beta-alanine.

Who and What is the Promix Pre Workout For?

When it comes to working out the most suitable uses and the populations that different pre-workouts have been designed for, you need to focus on the type and dosages of the main ingredients. Once you’ve listed the main ingredients with scientific backing, focus on the dosages to see if they have been included in efficacious amounts. 

The Promix Pre-workout contains four ingredients (excluding their stim-free and tingle-free versions). These are:

  1. 200 mg Caffeine (Coffee bean extract)
  2. 3.2 grams of Beta-alanine 
  3. 3 grams of L-Tyrosine 
  4. 1 gram of Taurine

In terms of the Promix Pre-workout ingredients with scientific backing, we should focus on Caffeine and Beta-alanine. L-tyrosine and Taurine may have beneficial effects but require more research before definitive conclusions can be drawn.
Caffeine is the most widely researched ergogenic aid in the world with proven performance benefits. Doses of 3-6 mg/kg body weight have consistently shown improvements in aspects of athletic performance and cognition.

The 200 mg dosage contained in the Promix Pre-workout is at the suggested dosage needed to see a noticeable performance effect.

Beta-alanine is another ergogenic aid with a large body of scientific research showing proven performance effects due to a reduction in fatigue. As the effects of beta-alanine are accumulative, any pre-workout dosage is sufficient providing total daily intake targets are reached. Daily loading doses of 4-6 grams are commonly used in research with a maintenance dose of 1.2 grams. As we’ve stated above, the total daily dose should be the main consideration. The 3.2-gram dose used in the Promix Pre is a good amount that can be used for approximately eight weeks before switching to a maintenance dosage.

1. Ingredient Breakdown 

Each serving of the Promix Pre-workout contains 200 mg of caffeine, 3.2 grams of Beta-alanine, 3 grams of L-Tyrosine, and 1 gram of Taurine as the main ingredients. Both the Caffeine and Beta-alanine have the most scientific backing are are included at efficacious doses. The L-tyrosine and Taurine are included in okay amounts but lack scientific research so we have chosen to focus on the other ingredients. 

Promix has included large amounts of Vitamin C and Vitamin B12 in amounts equal to or above your DRVs. These are great additions to improve energy metabolism and provide antioxidant properties. Whilst Vitamin B12 is usually included in most pre-workouts, Vitamin C is a nice addition.

Where Promix starts to stand out is the different pre-workout formulations offered. Alongside the ingredient formulation stated above, they also offer a stim-free version without the caffeine and a tingle-free version without the Beta-alanine. If you’re someone who doesn’t respond well to either of these ingredients and still wants to purchase the Promix pre, these are great options that most other brands often overlook.

2. Stimulation 

In terms of stimulation, the Promix Pre is most of a mid-strength pre-workout option that will provide an added kick without being too crazy or causing a crash following your workout. If you’re looking for a pre with a good amount of caffeine , the Promix pre is a great option.

However, if you’re looking for something to really wake you up before a workout and kick you into gear, both the Kaged and Transparent Lab pre’s reviewed below would be better options.

Future formulations could look to add Creatine and L-citrulline as two other common pre-workout ingredients will proven scientific research. Promix could offer a high-strength pre formulation with added ingredients or more caffeine for those who prefer this.  

3. Taste/ Flavor

Promix offers eight flavor options that cover a wide range of fruits and fruit combinations. The vast majority of users report an excellent taste across the whole flavor range, without too much of a sweet taste due to the natural ingredients used.

4. Nutrition Label Transparency 

Promix operates with excellent transparency across its whole supplement range, using tables that provide detailed nutrition breakdowns and show third-party testing results to prove the quality and purity of its ingredients. 

On their pre-workout tub, Promix clearly states all ingredients, including any added ingredients, allergen information, and dosing instructions. Possible side effects are also provided at the bottom which is a great addition.

Promix has used third-party testing by Eurofins and Covance. Whilst these are excellent testing bodies, future formulations could be improved by getting the informed sport and informed choice certifications as these are two well-known testing organizations recognized by high-level athletes. 

5. Value for Money 

Each serving of the Promix pre-workout costs $1.06. When comparing this to the ingredient formulation, we would say this still offers good value for money for a mid-strength pre-workout that uses natural ingredients. When you include the cost of third-party testing, this is definitely a good price point. 

How do you use the Promix Pre Workout?

Pre-workout powders should be consumed 30-60 minutes before exercise to allow the different ingredients to take effect. According to Promix, the suggested serving size and usage are as follows:

  • Add 1-2 scoops into 8-16 ounces of liquid and mix thoroughly.
  • Different liquids can be used depending on taste preferences
  • Drink 20 minutes before training for improvements in endurance, strength, and power

The 3.2 grams of beta-alanine would suggest a loading protocol for approximately 8 weeks after which this can be reduced down to 1-2 grams. If you’re looking to maximize your muscle carnosine stores at a faster rate, extra Beta-alanine may be added to the pre-workout if desired to total 4-6 grams of daily intake.

The amount of caffeine is included at a good dosage to see an ergogenic effect. If you are someone who hasn't taken caffeine before, try a half serving of the Promix pre-workout to assess individual tolerance before taking the full amount.

The other main ingredients included in the Promix Pre-workout lack scientific backing so haven't been included in the usage recommendations. Vitamin C and Vitamin B12 can be taken as suggested on the tub.

Both contain Beta-alanine, Taurine, and Caffeine, with the Kaged Pre containing double the taurine and nearly double the caffeine. Alongside this, Kaged has included large amounts of L-Citrulline and Creatine which are two main ingredients to focus on when it comes to pre-workouts.

Both supplements have been third-party tested, with the Kaged Pre bearing the Informed Sport logo on the front of the tub. Kaged offers five flavor choices but unlike the Promix Pre, they don't offer stim-free or tingle-free versions. 

With extra ingredients comes extra cost. Each serving of Kaged costs $3.00 which is significantly more than Promix.

Both products contain no artificial sweeteners and colors, instead focusing on mainly natural ingredients that have been third-party tested. The Transparent Labs Pre is informed-choice certified which is regarded as one of the better testing organizations.

Transparent Labs offer far more flavor options with 13 to choose from. However, they do not offer stim-free and tingle-free pre options. At $1.67 per serving, the Transparent Labs Pre does cost more than the Promix Pre but still offers excellent value for money when you factor in the added ingredients.

The Promix Pre-workout is a mid-strength supplement that uses caffeine and beta-alanine as the main research-backed ingredients. Promix offers stim-free and tingle-free options, giving you the freedom to choose your ingredients. 

In terms of value for money, the Promix Pre comes at a great price point with high-quality ingredients and third-party testing. Future formulations should look to add in L-citrulline and Creatine or at least offer high-strength versions as an option for those who want something stronger.
